They're a mix of RTS and vehicle combat.
There is also an older game called Pacific Storm which had very similar mechanics as the Battlestations series. I've never played it so I can't tell you if its worth it or not.
But Pacific Storm could be interesting.
Microprose is back at producing games and if anyone is going to do games like this one, it will be them. They've got a lot of different stuff on the horizon like Carrier Command 2. Which I believe you can take control over units and whatnot. So check out what MP has to offer.

This game was released few month ago and is awesome.
The dev team is the same that made the very famous "cold waters" game, that is an absolute reference in RTS naval games.
