Have you played Orcs Must Die?
If you like it more the Gemcraft style (try Gemcraft if you don't know it), then look for Dungeon Warfare.
Other good TD games are OTTTD, Bloons TD or Cursed Treasure
(all games i listed got several parts, but you won't make any wrong when you start with the first ones)
From mobile-strictly games I would recommend Royal Revolt 2, but be wary the game heavily incentivizes you to spend money and I would say that spending at least a bit is more or less required to fully enjoy it. Not in order to progress per se, though. It is also more of an active playstyle game, a reverse of Kingdom Rush in fact, as you mostly attack other people's towered castles and others attack yours.
Here a list from our group with the Top 10 TDs (no ranking in the list itself). The tex is german, but you see all the games.

Beware Planet Earth is another great one. Defense Grid 1+2 are okay but not "fun".
I also liked that zombie defense game..the one with the native americans.
Defense grid 1/2
Warstone TD - made by a guy who grew up playing tds. Its a little rough, but pretty fun
Orcs Must Die 1/2 - tower defense game where you play a "hero" character in a 3rd person action oriented form
Sanctum 2 - another game where you are a playable character, this time first person with guns, but also maze and build/upgrade towers
Dungeon Defenders 1/2 - Two more where you play as heroes with abilities while placing towers and traps (very co-op oriented)
For Android, I also recommend Mini TD. I think many tablet-based tower defense games are rubbish, however, Mini TD stood out to me.
Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows (on Steam and web-based) is decent, however, it gets quite "grindy" after awhile.
