"Expand Menu" hard coded to Right Mouse Button?
So, I've remapped all of the key bindngs to my custom preferences. As it happens, I prefer "Move Forward" to be bound to my right mouse button (RMB). It seems, however, that the "Expand Menu" command is hard coded to RMB, as while I'm moving forward with my avatar, he'll stop to interact with detritus on the ground. That is, "Expand Menu" is conflicting with my custom "Move Forward" key assignment and there appears to be nowhere that I can correct this conflict natively within the game. I even went so far as to find a file called "settings.sav" in the same folder as where the save games are kept, but 1.) It's a text file filled largely with machine language gobbledyguk and, 2.) any changes I made wound up corrupting the fonts and text in the Main Menu screen after reloading the game. Replacing "settings.sav" with a backed up file fixed the corrupted text but still leaves me with a custom movement key that conflicts with the default "Expand Menu" key.

RMB has been my "move forward" button for close to 30 years now. I don't expect to have to adjust my custom key bindings and control paradigm to fit the games that I play. Indeed, I expect that it should be the other way around.

Is this merely an oversight? Are there any plans to decouple "Expand Menu" from RMB as the hard coded, default value? Are there any plans to provide plain-text settings / config files that users can edit manually?

In the mean time, is there any way that I can customize this key binding on my own?

To be clear, this game looks fantastic and I'd really like to give it a good shake. However, I view this as, essentially, a game breaking issue (being unable to navigate the map properly) .... And I'm still within my refund window.

***Please, please fix this!*** :)

Bumping because I'm not the only one experiencing this problem:

Do the devs even monitor these forums? =\

Bump, this is unacceptable and has cost you 3 sales in my household alone. It's such a standard feature in PC games that it really isn't ok to have the issue. Don't be lazy.

Hi!

We have logged this issue into our bug base! We are sorry that you cannot enjoy our game to the fullest, we will work on fix for this issue.

cheers!
Thank you for the reply! As it happens, I've been soldiering on with the game, despite the difficulties imposed. It's been good fun and the setting is simply gorgeous! I'm pleased that this issue will be addressed in future.

In the meantime, are there any work arounds that you could suggest?

Commenting as it's an issue for me too. Hard coded keybinds are bad :(
Hi, I'm back after a long break from this game. I was pleased to see in the latest patch notes that the issue (or one of them, at least) with the "expand" menu not working as intended had been addressed. Thinking that this might have fixed the issues described in this thread, I fired up the game to give it a try and find out!

While playing the game, within two minutes, my inputs resulted in my character picking up and eating a piece of raw/spoiled meat (didn't really see what it was, it happens that fast). I'm at a point with "accidents" like these, which have been many, often at the most inopportune of times (died three times while exploring the elevator/mining camp owing to this sort of thing), where I really don't feel motivated to go through the motions of curing my character yet again of the resultant food poisoning and parasites.

This simply is not acceptable. Time for another long break of indeterminate length.

I have to wonder who does hard coded key mappings serve? What is the point in that?
Dunno. But I haven't played this game in ages as a consequence of it. Not a good look, for all the reasons above.

This has to be fixed. Same reason why I stopped playing Forest. HARDCODED BUTTONS ARE NONSENSE.
Dear devs.

We're seven (7!) months since this was reported in this thread, and I was not even the first to have raised the issue in the OP.

One continues to hope that this is just a low-priority item that folks just haven't quite gotten around to fixing yet. Benefit of the doubt and all that.

In the meantime, the much anticipated multiplayer is on its way as we speak. But I can't join any of my friends who may already have this game. "Why not?" I hear you ask. Because I literally can't play it without the UI going out its way to infect, parasitize, or in numerous other ways kill my dude. Nor can I recommend a game that I can't play, for all intents and purposes, to friends who don't yet have it.

Consequently, as each day passes, as community enthusiasm for the game's MP scene ebbs away, as it inevitably does for all games, I'm missing out because of what should be a dead simple fix.

Imagine the frustration.

I dropped the game, just because of that. Very frustrating...
I've always used RMB to move forward for years, and I'm having problems with the expand menu.
Please, give us the option to configure this.
We would like to be able to put the expand menu on another key or button, since it is causing conflict with the move.

Another patch, and our request was once again solemnly ignored.
Uninstalling this piece of trash.
Too bad I missed the deadline to request a refund.
Yeah, I'm well past the refund window as well. In good faith, I kept playing the game, believing that it would one day be addressed. Who knew that decoupling a simple context menu from the right mouse button could be so difficult to address?

Same problem here,

its not that difficult to patch this... cmon developer !

I start the game and after 45min am so angry abt this, i cant believe it...
