Question about the flame keeper update

Its been a while since I last played Green Hell; still love the game though.

I completed the first game and was about half way through the Amazonia story.

Do you have to complete this before you can access the Flame Keeper story or is it accessible regardless?
I understand you have to fight off waves of hordes and such but I just wasn't sure if this just becomes accessible after building the totem or not or is it a mode all on its own.

It only can be build outside of the story mode.

To build it, you will need to place it in large Waraha villages.

Ahh, Thank You. It's been a while since I've played this game, it's been so much fun getting back into it.
