The small hut you need save towards the top at the front or side as further down is for sleep.

I was having a hard time with games crashing and the like trying to play from where I left off. I realized that, whenever you save in game and want to exit, exit then and not later on using the, 'Save & Quit' option in the menu. It seems to confuse the game, at least it happened to me many times until I stopped using the save ans quit function in the menu. Just use the ESC key back to the menu and Quit.
I think it's something to do with the overwrites for the save. Like it will ask you, 'Are your sure' when saving like the above and changes the save to that location. It seems to get confused as to the location when you do it in the menu then quit and try to log in again. Idk, that's what was happening to my game. May not have happened to anyone else.
Note: I play in single player Survival, not co-op, if that helps.
Thank you this was the most precise answer. steam free weekend is over now and i didn`t have the time to check if i simpyl missed it or there was a glitch. i remember spending a lot of time trying to find just that button and couldn`t.
This, chunky controls (the worst for me was picking up stuff, like when you simply wanted to pick up dried leaves out of a pile), and the jaguar that kept spawning right near that village at the exact same time killing me every time, made me not want to buy this game. Also despite finishing tutorial and spending like 8 hours playing, i never reached a point where i could unlock blue prints to some form of water purifying.
So for me from a wasd tutorial to make it in the real game there where huge gaps. i like difficult games but not like this.
Thanks for your reply. Surely would have followed your advise if i bought it !
Do not give up on this game, it is challenging but also not extremely difficult, I started on Normal Story line.
The tutorial is very weak and does not address much, reading a bit online filled in some of the huge gaps I had at the beginning and experienced in-game that coconuts are a complete rarity so do not count on them for your survival.
Staying in the spawn area for a while (no enemies!), experimenting with and naming (ended up describing what they did instead of a 'Name') mushrooms and plants is a must after you have built your fire and fire cover and then a leaf hut.
Reloading your file is a constant in this game, for me at least.
You might want to look up the Fountain of Youth game if you put Green Hell aside for now, I can very highly recommend it.
