saving question
hy i started a game on the 2nd easiest level. near my spawning point there is an abbandoned village. went there and it says you can save the game if you build this or that structure. so i built a fire and primitive cover that said you can safe if you build it.

point is i still can`t safe anything. i can safe and leave the game, but i guess something else is meant, becasuse saving and quittung the game is availlable without any house or bed....

can someone clarify, or is it because it is just a steam free version ?

There's a prompt that comes up after using the sleeping structures, most often when you look at them from an odd angle - that's the one which lets you manually save. I don't think you necessarily have to sleep beforehand to get the save prompt but I can't always get it to appear without sleeping first.
You can save when you exit, but other than that you need to save using a structure to save. I like building near that abandoned village as well, there are several trees you can build a treehouse in, and you have water and everything you need right there. Plus a place to sleep off the round without having to build anything.
Each building in our notepad has a text at thebottom can save at roof or no text cant save at roof,

The small hut you need save towards the top at the front or side as further down is for sleep.

There can be an issue when saving in game at you base then, in the menu. It creates 2 different saves in your files so-to-speak and one corrupts the other. This if from experience. Do not save on exit, just save in the game like in the screenshot above then 'Quit' the game in the menu.

I was having a hard time with games crashing and the like trying to play from where I left off. I realized that, whenever you save in game and want to exit, exit then and not later on using the, 'Save & Quit' option in the menu. It seems to confuse the game, at least it happened to me many times until I stopped using the save ans quit function in the menu. Just use the ESC key back to the menu and Quit.

I think it's something to do with the overwrites for the save. Like it will ask you, 'Are your sure' when saving like the above and changes the save to that location. It seems to get confused as to the location when you do it in the menu then quit and try to log in again. Idk, that's what was happening to my game. May not have happened to anyone else.

Note: I play in single player Survival, not co-op, if that helps.

Thank you this was the most precise answer. steam free weekend is over now and i didn`t have the time to check if i simpyl missed it or there was a glitch. i remember spending a lot of time trying to find just that button and couldn`t.

This, chunky controls (the worst for me was picking up stuff, like when you simply wanted to pick up dried leaves out of a pile), and the jaguar that kept spawning right near that village at the exact same time killing me every time, made me not want to buy this game. Also despite finishing tutorial and spending like 8 hours playing, i never reached a point where i could unlock blue prints to some form of water purifying.

So for me from a wasd tutorial to make it in the real game there where huge gaps. i like difficult games but not like this.

Ended up buying the game at sale price for under 10$ Canadian just before the free weekend.
Do not give up on this game, it is challenging but also not extremely difficult, I started on Normal Story line.
The tutorial is very weak and does not address much, reading a bit online filled in some of the huge gaps I had at the beginning and experienced in-game that coconuts are a complete rarity so do not count on them for your survival.
Staying in the spawn area for a while (no enemies!), experimenting with and naming (ended up describing what they did instead of a 'Name') mushrooms and plants is a must after you have built your fire and fire cover and then a leaf hut.
Reloading your file is a constant in this game, for me at least.
You might want to look up the Fountain of Youth game if you put Green Hell aside for now, I can very highly recommend it.
