Once you get familiar with the mechanics, that complexity becomes interesting, and it's true that the system in other games ends up feeling very simple when you satisfy your hunger by eating any food.
I was recently thinking about something similar—maybe adding an extra hunger bar to keep in mind, but I'm not sure. Your idea sounds interesting.
I also thought it would be interesting to have the weather and temperature have an effect. If it's very hot, it can influence physical performance. If it rains and the temperature drops, it can make you cold and have a negative impact, or the opposite.
But it would have to be well thought out and balanced.
Crafting different types of beds, most comfortable better rest...
Maybe it's overcomplicating things.
I love complex systems as long as they make sense.
Weather would be awesome, rain would drop down your temperature and soak wet your clothes, requiring you to find shelter, or warmth. Being cold could reduce your movement speed and attack speed with melee, as well as drain your food faster.
Hot could do the same, too hot and you could go termia, requiring to find shades, or shadow to cover yourself, also bathing would balance things. The hotter you are the faster it would drain your water.
