I think a good spot for beginners would be 46w 26s. Got a hammock to sleep in, fire won't get rained on (if you set it in the right spot under the roof), bananas and animals nearby. Catch some fish, find some coconuts, boil up some stew.

Jake's tent location is a pretty good spot. a little isolated but the only place i've found fresh clean water that doesn't need treated. 28w 33s

Caves pretty much, there's one that connect the first map to the second one, one of the largest caves i believe in the game, only one entrance the other is grapple.

Make sure you make a small path above the floor to avoid scorpions.

My thoughts exactly. It doesnt have all the amenities of a hammock and all that, but you cant beat it for access to areas.

The two places I've always camped long term are the Canoe/Fishing Camp and the Haven. Both have reliable food, relatively few warrior attacks, and are convenient for exploring the north and south ends of the map respectively. At some point I go to Anaconda Island for a while, but only as long as necessary to finish that area.

Drug Factory is a decent one once you figure out the surroundings. Cutting out all the plantation frees up a massive flat area (probably the largest on the island) for construction and cultivating plants. Plenty of resource all around and good position in the early part of the map.

I think the abandoned fishing dock is a good place to stay. Granted, there is not too much open space to build, but you have already met your basic needs there, so you don't need so much space for important buildings.
You have a lot of water right in front of you. All you need to do is build a mudd filter, and that's all. There is a hammock, you are provided with fish and huntable animals nearby, a decent number of banana plants in the vicinity - what else would you need to live.
