Any ways to generate insects?

Waiting for fruits and meat to go bad is way too long, and I don't really want to use additional tools for my first story playthrough. So is there any suggestions? I need to feed my pets

harvesting spoiled food or getting ants from an anthill is the best way to do stock up on insects. you should not suffer any rashes or eventual death if you approach the anthill with a lit torch so you can just harvest away

i don't think you can get rash as long as you have armor with durability on but i would't be 100% sure about that unless i heavy test that... still i usually get my 4 ants with my armor without rash problems and even if you get a rash isn't the end of the world so no problemo

i don't think you can get rash as long as you have armor with durability on but i would't be 100% sure about that unless i heavy test that... still i usually get my 4 ants with my armor without rash problems and even if you get a rash isn't the end of the world so no problemo

yea I always run around with 4 piece armadillo armor since it just blocks everything in the jungle with a high enough chance, but I thought ants get deterred by torches just like bees. at least they used to. dunno if they changed it. I still get the animation but I have not suffered anything yet

Yes torch work perfectly fine, the problem with torch is that you need a fire going and a clear day that usually isn't something i want to waste time on the main reason is that fire attract natives they are unpredictable if you have a base near... so unless i'm cooking i won't go on ants nest on purpouse :D or u mean u get the animation of ants attacking you while carrying the torch?

I'm not sure. The first time I harvest ants I used torch and have armadilo armor on, but the animation just keep on popping but I dont have any problem.
