Fire inside Caves should be Protected from Rain
New to game, was enjoying it quite a bit, but then I made a little base inside a cave.

Put a fireplace and it goes out every time it rains.. seen posts about the same issue from 2018 and 2022... but seems like this is still an issue.... Why do caves not provide a roof?

Well some caves in real life are not 100% waterproof.

The roof looks like solid stone.. even if it drips a little, it shouldn't put out a big campfire.... fires go out *poof* as soon as it rains outside... also, the rain outside makes the floor wet.. the cave floor does not show the floor getting wet, but the fire just goes out instantly when it rains.

I disagree that this is for realism.. I think it is a very old bug that has not been fixed..

Is it even a game bug or the game engine? There are other games where you build a 5 story building and yet you get rain coming through on the ground floor.

So far, when playing Survival mode multiplayer, the wood frame + wood platform over a fire keeps it from going out. So, there IS a roof that works for fireplace.

Just not the roof of caves.. and it sucks, because you cannot build the frame and platform inside -- and even if you could -- it would look really dumb and ugly..

It is a bug and a code that was not implemented.
A cave roof should be fine against the rain.
I know when building a base and a mud fireplace it rains inside the base. Creepy Jar has added a code and fire will not go out saying rain is only cosmetics.
But its not behaving as cosmetics in a cave it actually goes out.

They release fancy update about fire... but then after many years regular fireplace still goes out due to rain while being indoors... very strange..

Hi! Could you please specify which cave are you referring to? I would appreciate the coordinates of it!
Also, on which game mode are you playing? Is it on Story mode?

I am playing single player story mode...

I am new to the game so I cannot say which cave it is exactly... hmm. there is a small waterfall and the entrance is just a bit downstream of it.. there's a log going up to a little plateau a bit further downstream, and on this plateau there is a place to go up with a grappling hook.

The cave is small, there is a back wall where I put a bed, and then there is a small dip in there that looks perfect for a fireplace..

@Hippie, you can use the GPS on your watch to provide the devs w/ the specific coordinates where the cave is located.

Fires in caves are shielded from the rain unless there's an opening in the cave ceiling. If there's nonesuch, this is a bug.

Its best to lower the bar when playing this game. Yesterday I logged in and the ants I used the day before were hovering in the air when I walked which was really a telling moment. Just lower your expectations into the negatives.
