I can't really help you find the other nutrients as it's somewhat random and it would spoil the discovery. Trust me when I say that this game's fun factor heavily relies on players discovering things on their own. I figured out most of the crafting recipes on my own. There were a couple of items that I looked up and now those items feel cheap and worthless. I will say that you can typically find everything you need for basic survival within 100 meters of the starting spawn. Just remember that once you cross the fallen tree it is game on. I got killed immediately after crossing the bridge my first playthrough.
The hunger isn't much of an issue at first. It picks up once you start exploring but towards the end game you should have outposts all over the map with food stores. I have a couple of large bases then a bunch of smaller ones dotted around the map.
After starting once more, there are bananas and coconuts all over the place all of a sudden. I guess it's random.
While I did make a spear, i found catching fish is all but easy. I did craft a bow which makes fishing a piece of cake and makes short work of all other animals so far.
Anyway, I'm well stocked on food now, but to survive the first days a newb just has to get lucky with fruit I guess.
Totally agree but i was implying the starting area as per op.
The spawn locations are set but the actual spawns are random. One banana tree within render may get fruit while the other doe not.
I know but I thought I'd put it out there for the OP or any other noobs who come here.
Yes, I know.
But I've found 3 coconuts in trees o day 2.
15 days later and those are the only ones so far.
but make sure you have at least a few spears
Search around all of the water bodies in the entire starting zone.
Sometimes there are trees and bananas all over place but you dont see them.
I have tonnes!! by walking in circle, around starting area.
Brazil nuts are worst to find but very rewarding.
Maggots and grubs can be eaten in soups, removing sanity loss.
Same for snails and mushrooms.
I was trying to let him figure ♥♥♥♥ out on his own but since the cat is out of the bag now... All of the mushrooms can be eaten raw save one, but he'll have to figure that one out on his own.
Oh, my food troubles are over after restarting shortly after I made this post. I guess i was just unlucky with food spawning. Except for the coconuts in trees, still only spotted one more tree with coconuts on them, but then, I'm good food-wise.
And yeah, I figured out which mushroom to not eat raw.
I think the only "food" I haven't tried is the long pork, and not going to either, I cannot imagine the sanity hit from eating it.
I was actually quite surprised when I saw the "harvest" button on that native warrior.
Oh, by the way, cooked snails give a +5 sanity bonus somehow, not a loss. But then, escargot's are nice.
I can confirm that eating the sweet meat comes with a massive penalty. I accidentally a piece raw when I was trying to destroy a stack... It's easier to just harvest the natives to get your arrows back.
