Second to last sentence of post literally says: "there seems to be no way currently to force the new update to 2.4.0."
And I'm a SHE, as he's stated multiple times.
Easy bby <3
It may have a schedulled next to it for your friends country as GH is world wide updates and patches become availabe at different times.
Ask friend do they have cloud remotes on?
There could be a mismatch with Steam requiring syncing to GH saves.
Ask them to enable cloud in the properties of GH. Then check Steam sync next to play in the Steam client

Reinstall GH should have resolved it that sounds like your friend may haver other issues should post to bugs about their problem.
And we cant see things happening at the same time. For example, my friend was seeing an animal passing, but for me nothing :( The tribes just the same. And when we cook I can't see the food that my friend is cooking, etc...
it's very annoying
2. Check different internet connections. The most stable and advised to be used is ethernet cable, but you may try with e.g. mobile hotspot from your phone.
3. If you are using antivirus, add Green Hell and Steam as exceptions. Add them to your Firewall as well.
4. Disable applications running in the background. In order to do that:
- open Task Manager;
- navigate to Startup tab (if you cannot see this tab, you may need to click the More details button first);
- turn off all the applications which are not necessary for your system to run.
5. There is a program called „Killer Network Manager“, which is currently pre-installed on some systems, that uses the Killer Network Chip. Stopping/disabling the service appeared to be helpful in the case of many gamers. Please note that Killer Network Manager is a network management suite. It's a set of programs that allows you to manage your network and prioritize the network resource usage of applications. If you don't have this particular program, check for other equivalents of this software that might be on your PC.
6. In some cases mods may interfere with the game, so if you are using them, we advise you to check your connection after removing mods from the game.
Also, when she starts a new single player game, just to see if the notebook is updated because of building update, the game WILL CRASH TO DESKTOP no matter which mode was started.
Look at the version numbers and build numbers here:

This makes absolutely no sense. The steam properties claim they are the exact same, yet the game is saying it is different.
Her game is also completely unplayable now in single player or multiplayer unless it can be rolled back to before the update.
1) Both verify your Steam files - here's how to do it: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2160052009
2) Your friend should check if restarting keybinds to default resolve the crash issue.
To restart keybinds, go to Options > Controls > Key Bindings and restore them to default controls by clicking "Default".
You might need to redo your custom keybinding after doing it, so maybe prepare some backup screenshot of if.
3) If none of above helps, please tell your friend to send us saved game file (here's how: https://steamcommunity.com/app/815370/discussions/1/3127163422384266861/), with information when the crash occurs (you're doing something exact, you're in some location, etc) & your hardware specs at support@creepyjar.com
Please let us know if 1) or 2) solution helped, it will be extremely helpful for us to investigate this issue further
We checked today after the last mini-update and saw that our version numbers were matching now.
For some reason before, the last patch did not reach everyone, as strange as that sounds.
