co-op is missing story mode?

I started multiplayer game with a friend, we can joi nthe game and walk around and do stuff, but none of the story mode stuff seems to work.

The quest log gets randomly updated for instance once you walk past the bowl of ritual water, but theres no real 'story line' happening.

Has anyone encountered it and found a fix ?

No its played fine for me co op.
For SOA you need to do the 2 rituals make the fire then the make the drink. You need the vine and berries. Please check your survival notepad to see the quests to do.
drinking it will start the quests.
If you wish to play Story choose Story recomend Story first.
go back to main menu and choose Multi player then Story
you will be the host then set Privacy to
invites only, Start your game as host in Story, Then pause game and send invite.

send invite to friend. You will be presented with the list of you friends just click on them, they will receive a link in messenger they click on that and will load into your gme

My first assumption is you started the Survival mode and not actually the story mode.

NOTE: You need to complete the tutorial first to start the story mode.

I think (not positive) that everyone who wants to play the story mode with you also needs to complete tutorial.
