if u play straight through and know exactly what you are dong you can beat it in 6-8 hours roughly for main game but thats with no building except to sleep or save the game

When the player uses the option to build lots of small bases comes in handy as we come cross those bases in other DLC on the same maps, it really helps to find a place to eat sleep and heal take time out from the Story or DLC, then go explore and just have fun learning survival as you play the Story, for me it can take a few hundred hours.
If you want to get all the achievements take the time and enjoy it. Beautiful immersive game.
My total time with Story and the 3 free DLC 1176 hours. So it depends if you want to do a fast run or enjoy it and build some nice bases.

I dare say the SOA story is impossibly long. And its just busy work. The main story is, actually a story and enjoyable so at least it feels like it's not too long.

Story is pretty long, took me about 30+ hours.
