I've thrown spears at them but the beehive wont fall u cant get close to get the spear back lol i leave them alone for now

The solution is: move close to the beehive, but not too close. Then throw a stone at it, this will bring it down and the honey will drop to the ground. Wait a little, before you get it, because the bees will still remain close to it for a short time. After a couple of minutes, you can pick up the honey. But you should hurry doing this, because there will be still some bees and - trust me - they are not amused.

You can throw your axe at it. It will instantly fall. Hurry and pick the honey up and your axe or just make a new one.

THIS is exactly, why I rather throw a stone, than my axe :P

I throw an axe, wait about 10 seconds for the bee explosion to disapate then pick up my axe and the honey. Even if I lost an axe its not exactly hard to find rope, sticks and rocks :)

Seing how rare the resin is, i rather take my chances and get stung than waste a torch.
Also, stone works best.

Throw rocks, cheap and effective. It's possible to be stung when the hive is cracked open. Make sure to have room in your pack so when you crawl in to snag it you can do so after a short wait. I'm not sure what part still stings, the upper half still on the tree, the rolling around broken part of the hive, or maybe the swam circles as a 3rd entity. In any case I haven't been stung in the last two dozen hives at least.

2. carefully go and pick up the honey
3. both broken hive parts sting, so try to avoid them

So long as you have a stone in your back pack, just press and hold the G key and the crosshairs will come up. Aim and let go of G.
