I have a feeling that the dev only release a small part of the map for early access. Maybe they're still working on finishing the rest of the map. Or they've finished it but decided not to release it as part of early access yet so that there will be other areas to explore when it is released after early access is over.
This is speculation only of course.
I have tried avoiding using list of POI's so that it would be a surprise to find something, I've been running into the same things over and over for a long time, but I know from discussions that there is a weapon rack, so there is at least place I haven't found :)
I think that hand designed maps are more beautiful than procedural generated maps, but they don't offer much replay value once you have seen it all, this game would be even greater if they add some point added a map editor and a few zones that could be turned into custom built zones, this could really add replay value :)
I agree with you, but I expect to get a bigger map, once the game is really finished. We are in a very early EA state of this game and I think it's pretty good so far. I hadn't expect so much things to be already in game and fully functional, including the map, as it is now. I'd rather prefer to start with a smaller map, but fully funtional, than revealing the whole map with probably a number of unfinished parts.
"I can't speak to the exact size of the map just yet, but there are plenty of videos and streams to give you an idea of what is currently in the game".
Which is slightly worrying, as this implies they know it's pretty small and dont want to tell us the exact size of it. Even if it doubles in size after early access i still dont think it will be anywhere near as big as it needs to be for a survival game. It's strange that there is no info on the store page regarding planned map size too. As just about anyone who plays a survival game will want to know this.
The environment looks awesome, but as mentioned this is the difference between hand crafted and procedurally generated i guess. I'd kinda hoped that this map would be atleast half the size of say DayZ map. Dayz full map is about 225 km2.
I get the impression this is about 10 km2 at most. Which makes me worry about longevity and how long it will take before you#ve seen it all.
Hopefully Steph. I wish they'd just tell us how big it is now and how big it will be. It's weird they don't seem to know.
I think it is less than 4 km2, Stranded Deep has a map size of 6.25 km2 and it is definitely a lot bigger than Green Hell :)
