This game is brutal for new players, any tips?
I need to know some more basic crafting recipes and game mechanics that the game doesn't teach you, can someone point me in the right direction please?

What do you mean with "more crafting recipes"? For everything you discover you get an entry in your log.

I want to know what to look for before wanting to craft it. Not that hard to understand tbh.

CRAFTING:

The best hint that I can give you about crafting is to put an item to craft. You'll see some dots on your screen, showing that you can use more items to craft something using the item that you selected.

For example... Let's say you put item A to craft and you see 5 dots. This means you can craft something using item A + 4 other items, but that doesn't mean you can ONLY craft that, if you have something that uses item A + 1 item, once you put the second item, it will tell you can craft that thing, OR keep adding more items to craft something more.

To be more precise... Let's say you right-click the stick and ask to craft. You'll see that stick alone can't craft (and there are items that you can craft using ONLY the item), but you'll see something like 5 or 7 dots (I'm not sure), this means you can craft stuff using stick up to more 6 items...

Together with the stick you put a rope, you'll see now that the game tells you you can craft a weak torch, BUT YET you'll see there are more dots to fill, this means stick + rope = weak torch, but stick + rope + MORE THINGS = other craftings.

So... The best thing you can do is to experiment with things. Every time you find something new, you can try to craft something using it... You can also HARVEST some items to gain other items, and you can also experiment to craft more stuff.

Have in mind that in some recipes you use more than one of the same material. If you ask to craft something using a feather, you'll see a lot of dots, if you place a small stick, you'll see it'll ask for another item... It's another feather... SO... Get experimenting.

FOOD:

There are more than 100 eatable things in the game, and you know nothing about them. Some items you'll learn the game (if you are playing Story mode), but every time you eat something you learn what that food gives to you.

To learn you need to eat... Some items you can be logical, like eating rot food probably won't be good for you, eating animal droppings probably won't be good for you, but the thing that you'll most eat are mushrooms, and there are a lot of them.

Literally, get experimenting, eat one thing of everything to learn what they do (in case you can't use logic to know if it's good or bad), and be ready to feel a lot of bad consequences, because there are a bunch of them.

Anyways... This is how you learn about food, you eat and learn what they do, if they do something bad, you'll have to learn how to deal with it. You can read the solution for bad effects in your notebook, by the way.

Here are some non-spoiler tips for new players.

- Understand before starting, your character will likely die many times.
- Walk, DON'T RUN.
- Listen to your environment for clues to danger.
- Look at all the plants and trees you come across to see if they provide a prompt for use.
- Pay attention to your Sanity meter, as well as your Nutrition needs displayed on the watch.
- In Tribal, or other POI areas, look at all the items to get new recipes.
- Open the crafting interface and put items on it to see if a recipe is valid. There are some recipes you can figure out from the beginning, and some that you cannot figure out until you find the item in the world. Try lots of different combos.
- All recipes you know will be listed in the notebook.

Basic recipes: stone blade = 2 stones, stone spear = stone blade + long stick + rope, stone axe = 2 stones + stick + rope, bow = long stick + rope, arrows = 2 bird feather + 1 small stick

If you need anymore help with the game feel free to add me as a friend and DM with questions i've got almost 100 hours into green hell. More than happy to help a new player :)

Green Hell is the kind of game that you experiment and learn while playing, getting really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ during your firsts runs to learn stuff, but once you know everything, the game becomes a piece of cake, really easy.

Press Shift for hold breath and "steady aim" with bow
R blocking does help fight jaugar but u not suppose to let it get to ur face
rush armor early game by kill banana tree then craft with it leaf+3 bone and many rope
it will save u
make soup by place shell near fire rather than blow water on coco shell/hold coco shell and drop to water to gather water
stock blue mushroom for energy snack. It give u lot of energy
stock meat for energy. only big game give u energy
trash axe like stone+stick is the lightest axe so use that for grinding skills or u can use til late game

Build lots of small huts and or frames with roof so you can sleep and save small fire to cook dirty water make a bidon or 2 from coconuts. Check your notepad often for new recipies,
Guides pinned at the top :)

do the tutorial it helps alot you can also do custom settings for a begginner so ive got mine set to begin without natives and without predators but i have all the rest switched on you can set on easy combat and easier settings while you learn, tourist for story, walk in the park is also good for beginners. you will find things in native villages that will then teach you to make them, going to the waters edge and taking mud opens up a vast amount of items you can make. hope this helps

and always save around 4pm where you are set up a save point that you can return to later ive tons all over the place especially good for if i get lost and make notes of where each is compass setting wise, it will help you later on.

Hey mate, good luck. As has already been mentioned - walk, don't run. Sound cues are very important in this game. Snakes and spiders are often hidden in the undergrowth, and you might not see them, but you will definitely hear them as you approach. They are dispatched easily with a spear, as long as you don't run. Snake bites are probably the most common cause of strife.

One word: Armor. Banana leaf (you have to hold RMB and press craft), 2 ropes, and then either 3 sticks, 3 bones, 1 armadilBro shell, or 3 metal rods. The bones one is surprisingly sturdy as soon as you get some lvls on your crafting and hence start getting more than like 20% durability out of them (though you wouldve gotten the same low durability no matter what you made cause of your low crafting skill). If it sounds too complicated its not really, I never ever checked what lvl I am of something, just saw the newly-crafted durability rising slowly over time. Just make sure you put armor on all your body parts and its a walk in the park, only difference between them is their durability. You cant get stung by bees or ants and you can pet the jaguars and pumas. It removes so much gameplay its almost sad so Im glad it took me long to find out :/ So if you start out with that everything else should be alot less punishing. Otherwise note that some things even though they are too big for your backpack still can be used in crafting recipies, like long stick f.ex, so make sure you try that on things you havent. You can discover recipes by yourself by just experimenting, the circle filling thingy above the crafting stone fills with white circles if youre doing a recipe and stops if you start making a combo not matching a recipe. I also see alot of "walk dont run". Great tip! With some practice itll give you time to dodge critters you failed to notice, and more importantly it wont instantly make predators think youre prey when they see you, making them approach you more slowly and giving you more time to react/plan.
