Look for POI note where the sunrises and sets direction.
Of course, having a compass is of limited use if you don't have a map. But there are several maps in the game that you can find.
Your watch has GPS; the coordinates are displayed on the same face the compass is on. Press F to display your watch, then use the mouse wheel to scroll through the faces.
Either you're misunderstanding the functionality of the watch, or you actually mean quest markers, because _that_ is something that Green Hell does indeed not have.
The game is advertised as providing a survival experience with "real survival technique", that includes navigation with a compass, GPS, and a map. You'll frequently consult your maps and your compass/GPS to make sure that you're actually going where you want to. However, the maps have to be found first, you don't start with them.
