how do i navigate to where
I need to go without a compass to navigate to where I need to go?

Find the maps. They will show where the rivers / caves villages are you have discovered .
Look for POI note where the sunrises and sets direction.

I may be misunderstanding the question, but you do have a compass. It's one of the three functions of your watch. You switch between these functions with the watch key (not sure which key that is by default as I have rebound mine, but you can check it in the keybinding options).

Of course, having a compass is of limited use if you don't have a map. But there are several maps in the game that you can find.

I also jot down important coordinates on a sheet of paper, both before and after finding the in-game map because there is no way of marking your home base(es) within the game.

Your watch has GPS; the coordinates are displayed on the same face the compass is on. Press F to display your watch, then use the mouse wheel to scroll through the faces.

This is kind of odd. First you said you had no compass, but the watch actually has a compass. Then you said you had no GPS, but the watch actually has a GPS as well - I think the game literally tells you that at least twice.

Either you're misunderstanding the functionality of the watch, or you actually mean quest markers, because _that_ is something that Green Hell does indeed not have.

The game is advertised as providing a survival experience with "real survival technique", that includes navigation with a compass, GPS, and a map. You'll frequently consult your maps and your compass/GPS to make sure that you're actually going where you want to. However, the maps have to be found first, you don't start with them.

Hold you watch up ( F ) then face north bring up your map ( M ) beside your watch.
