Not able to collect water with coconut bowl anymore?
So i haven't played for a while (more than 6 months) and i don't know if it's a bug or feature, but i cannot put bowl into the water (lake) and collect water into the bowl. It keeps empty after dropping to a pond.

What gives?

Hi, it's not a bug. That has always been like that, we can place the bowels on the groung for rain catcher and cooking spots.
You can drop them in the water open craft table and pickup it up place it onto craft table.
The use of a bidon is the way to pick up water

Nope, it wasn't "always" like that, i have collected water like that many times before.

Also this is stupid and totally unrealistic.

Also, i can't cook water in bidon :/

Place coconut bowls onto fire cooking spots then pick up Bidon full of dirty water transfer to coconut bowls on cooking spots. boils to clean water.
The steel bidon hold 100 water. Found at the over turnd jeep.
The large cooking pot found at the drugs base
Placing a gril lrack over fire adds more cooking spots.
Craft more Bidons to fill with clean water

I don't understand why they changed it so you can't use bowl to transfer water from water source (lake, pond, river, rain) and put it on the fire. It's nonsense.
And you can't even use flask (with fresh water) to fill water into bowl to cook a soup. It HAS TO BE dirty water.

Absurd.

The handling of water has not changed in the six months since you last played the game. As Jaunitta already explained, you are (and were) supposed to use bowls/pots to catch or boil water, and bidons to transfer it. It's a very crude system that definitely warrants criticism, but it wasn't changed.

Alternatively (and that might be what you remembered), you can open your backpack, _drop_ a coconut bowl into dirty water, pick it up again, and place it on the ground (or on a campfire spot), all while keeping the backpack open. The bowl will retain the water. You can also click on the bowl, move it around on the ground, and drag it across farther distances if you want to, but that is very cumbersome. But if you put it into the backpack, it will automatically empty itself.

My guess is that you perhaps don't remember your previous practice in all its detail, and forgot to keep your backpack open. Without the backpack open, none of the above will work, and you'll just "attack" the bowl if you click on it while wielding a weapon. It's a _very_ counter-intuitive system, so it's easy to misremember things about it.

You can absolutely fill fresh water from a bidon into a bowl. You just cannot _mix_ water of different types (which is counter-intuitive as well, a better solution would be to just add the water, but keep it dirty).

It may be longer than 6 months, maybe a year.
Here's topic that explains how to cook/boil/take water from dirty water source, exactly as i remember.

Also, i cannot use flask with water to fill a bowl.
Maybe im doing it wrong?

I put bowl on to fireplace (one of circle), then i try to pick up flask/coconut bidon and move it over a bowl. Nothing happens - no icon to fill bowl.

Even if bowl is on the ground i cannot fill it. It neither fills from rain nor from any water source (including mud cleaner).

Some times when a bowl has been used for different liquides it needs to be right clicked and spill to remove previous contaminants then it will allow adding of dirty or clean water for bone soups.

Eat the orange capped mushroom found on logs to drink dirty water and prevent parasires, also the blue mushrooms on the brazilian nut trees,
use G to throw a stone or spear at coconuts high in the tree.

Hmm, that topic basically says the same thing as Jaunitta and me above. And it still works that way, at least for me. If this doesn't work for you, then it might be a bug.

It doesn't look like you're doing anything wrong. Looks more like a bug to me.

Is this an old savegame that you're trying to continue? Also, did you use mods with the game that may have become outdated?

Here's how it looks for me - I put two coconut bowls from my backpack on the ground, then clicked on a coconut bidon with clean water and started dragging it. You can see that the icons for "fill container" appear on both bowls.

Could you try to start a new game on an unmodded installation of the game and check if the problem still occurs for you?

New savegame, new campaign. No mods, tried one (dll replacement) but game didnt start so i've dropped it. None of items lying on the ground have any icons.

Jup, that's also one of the downsides of this game. Although it's very realistic, taking water with a coconut shelf should be possible (as it is in real life) but I understand the devs try to steer the players towards the coconut bidon.
Evanduril Apr 27, 2022 @ 1:10am
Coconut even doesn't collect rain water when placed on unroofed floor.

Ok, solved. It turned out that i actually have used some mods BEFORE and after uninstalling game previously, all mod files were left in the game folder (uninstaller didnt remove all files from game folder). After installing game again it installed in the same folder as before, where old mod files were left behind.

After uninstalling and reinstalling to another, different location, all my water problems are gone.

Sorry for my mistake.

Hmm, now I'm confused. As getting water from a river with a coconut shelf doesn't work for me. No mods installed whatsoever.

No worries - great that we got it solved in the end! Enjoy the game. :)
