Please Explain the Pottery Table

Okay... so, I can craft the table. No biggie there. I can give it all the items it requires. I can make a clay jug, clay pot, and clay bowl. I figured out that you can bake them on the fire.
All is good so far. Here's my question.... Where does the melted iron ore come into play? I put the required amount in the table, and there's literally no use for it. Then after I went to sleep, it was no longer in the table (which I think that part was an addressed and hotfixed bug). But still... what's the point of it? Iron Ore is a hot commodity, and I feel like I just wasted a bunch.

Thank you! I could've sworn that I cycled through the options after adding the ore, and only saw the 3 items I listed above. I'll check again.

You have to level pottery by crafting pots to unlock more items.

Ohhh! That makes sense, I had crafted several pots & bidens when the other options showed up for me.
