Can't kill jaguar with spear?

I'm trying to get through day 1 of Green Hell mode and keep dying to jaguar. The spear just seems to pass straight through its body. Glitch or...? I love the game but this is frustrating!

Killed two today with the bamboo spear. If you don't hit them in the head they still come at you.

As above says. A spear straight to the head works great for all kills , some of them may just run away and come back. Some animals will bleed out and you have to find their body.
Craft several basic spears from either bamboo and or wood so if the first fails you have another.
You can hear him coming so be prepared.
Try practise using the bow as well.

Any animal will be 1 spear shot or 1 arrow to the head, except the black caiman (2 arrows), head shots do far more damage so best to quickly pull out a bow or spear and hit it head on. I’d also advise carrying some Ash dressings (Leaf bandage + Campfire Ash) when you’re travelling around. They’re best for Lacerations

I understand that arrows shouldn't one shot kill when hitting the body, but how the heck jaguars or humans still survive with a big spear hit pass through their whole body. Moreover, they not even look hurt or slowdown because of that. Might not be instant death, but they should bleed a lot with severe/fatal injury, not be able to fight back with spear in their chests.

I think he's referring to thrusting the spear, not throwing it.

Thrusted spears are broken at the moment. At least they are broken in SoA mode (I haven't tried them in others) and they're probably broken in normal story and survival I would imagine.

Thrown spears should work fine.

Yeh tried killing a scorpion with spear in cave.. couldn't hit it. But toucans etc or cats.. throwing is good. Even just punching them in the face works, but you usually die soon afterwards anyway.
