Armadillo ... but the more you craft a type of armor the higher the health %. Armadillo is more resistant but more easy to come by

bone is more ...
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

leaf < stick < bone < metal < armadillo

I'd concentrate on leveling up bone armor first; it affords good protection, & you'll easily have enough bone to do so fairly quickly.

How come armadillo armor is better that metal one?

Cool beans. Thanks.

It's a time investment vs result calculation.

To get armadillo armor, you chuck a spear. Make armor.

To get iron armor, you search through several caves. You build a mud mixer. You build a fire and let it burn through for some ash. You mix mud (multiple times) to build a charcoal furnace. You gather a bunch of wood. Wait for charcoal in furnace. You build one or two forges. You melt iron. You create molds. You stick the iron into the molds and bake. You harvest the mold... and make armor.

Personally, I'll use bone over going through that hassle for iron.

So by your logic metal armor should be better than armadillo not vise versa.

I was under the impression that it was so, but can't speak from experience. At the same time, depending on how long it takes to level up armadillo armor, hunting that many armadillos could be pretty time consuming & labor intensive, too.

I've been snapped by a caiman w/ bone armor at 92%; the health of the armor on that leg was reduced to 5%, but I took no damage, & already had a replacement set of armor stored in a chest at my base due to bones bones bones.

No. By my logic I will not spend 15x-20x the amount of time to build for a 2x buff, but instead build a quick replacement piece every so often, usually with almost zero effort involved in comparison to metal.

To put it into perspective, imagine we both start with fresh armor and every 5 minutes we come together and hit each other 5x times. All resources are stockpiled.
You stick to metal, I'll use bone (because imho even that's better than iron).
Even if your structures are built from the start and you pretty almost break my armor on every run, you will still live much shorter because, comparatively, the time taken to replace my armor, is neglegable.
To add to it, my crafting skill and thus my armor's durability will skyrocket before yours can even take off.

If I'm reading this correctly, max health for bone armor would be 50, but I've leveled it up significantly higher than that, so I have to admit, I don't get it. Maybe it varies by mode?

No armor can make up for little to none skills, being well experienced using bow and spear is the best defence.. Just saying.
