I just tested this in both my current (SoA) save & an older (sandbox) save, & had no problem crafting it. The sandbox save is quite old, though (it predates the DLC).

Are you sure you didn't accidentally try to use small sticks, rather than sticks?

Hmm. My SoA save is of parts 1 & 2, completed, & I had found tribal fire starters at various Waraha camps. I wonder if we have to find them now before we can craft them?

You could try verifying your games files via Steam Client, too.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. :fourLeafClover::lunar2020ratinablanket:

This is not a bug,. You cannot craft the Tribal fire starter in SoA1 until you either find one in one of the camps, or you craft enough items to unlock the blueprint.

The firestarter can be found in the abandoned tribal camp
Coordinates
46W 26S
In the old map .
Also at the village where the weapon rack is up from the fishing dock.
In SOA 1 its in a new area, if i recall I found one in the village down from the cave where the new map starts and you walk across the log to a center. there is a few places even look in the Chief"s base you might get something there.
The village up from the large ship also has one.

Did you actually craft it and place it in the slot at the rear of backpack where you see the fire icon?
It wont list until you place it in your backpack
But there is other fire starters that are better its not much better than the drill.

I am playing survival and I had a tribal fire starter in my pack. When it got worn out. I could not make another. It was in the note book and I followed the two ordinary sticks and two ropes but it would not work and on the crafting stone I noticed that after I had put the two sticks and ropes on it was still coming up with an extra O like it needed something else adding. I tried lots of things. I could make the other fire starters no problem even the bow fire starter. This happened after the recent update.

Sounds like your known recipes are bugged, or the update reset known recipes internally but not in the notebook, especially if the save was started before the update.

You could try starting a new game, using a different save, and see if you can just make one.

Regardless, my understanding from comments made by the devs is that given the extent of the changes made in the most recent update, you should really start a new game.

Hey, thanks for this report. I'll ask the QA to check that on our end, but it would be helpful if you can send us tour saved game file from session where you're unable to craft it at support@creepyjar.com, here's how to extract that file: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2160052009

I currently have four saves; one that predates the addition of SoA, two from SoA, & a new one I started after the building update. Of the two SoA saves, one predates the animal husbandry update, the other was made after it was added. The save that predates SoA is in vanilla WITP mode; the other saves are custom games in which I used WITP as the template.

I tested crafting the tribal fire starter on all four saves, & the results I had were consistent across all four. Once two sticks & two ropes were placed on the crafting table, I received the option to craft the fire starter. I could also have added two more items, which is consistent w/ crafting stick armor.

tl;dr: It sounds like you have buggy recipes, as suggested by BaronVC. You could try verifying your files via Steam client; if that doesn't fix it, you could try uninstalling/reinstalling. If that doesn't work, you would probably have to start a new run, unless the devs can fix your save.

Good luck, hope you can make it work. :fourLeafClover::lunar2020ratinablanket:
