Best Place for a Base?
This may help some of you that are new to the game, or struggling.

I've tried many locations for a base even having bases all over the map, but this one is the best I have come across.

At the start of your save, go to the abandoned village at 46w-26s. I used this as a base for several days as Capybara often just stroll into the camp and make themselves an easy kill. But, you often get tribesmen very closeby and also a Jaguar, so I built my own camp to the rear of the village (amongst the palm and banana trees). This is pretty central on the map which makes it easy to explore and return to your base in a single day. There are Capybara (already mentioned) that are the best food source for fats and protein, bananas, mushrooms and fruit nearby.

If you struggle to get your shelter and fire down on the first day, just use the hammock and fire pit in the village until you are done.

I have now been here for 28 days with no problems at all and consider it one of the best places for a base until of course, the map gets extended in a future update.

I forgot to add: You can place a shelter down with a leaf bed inside, then place your fire close to the bed and it won't go out in the rain.

+1 Abandoned Camp best locale, hunting, fishing, every sort of plant , about the only downside is the lack of nearby bamboo , flat surface for incorporating all the existing abandoned structures into a great fort , central location allows for easy day treks out in any direction , can make it back before dark , eat and sleep in a cozy hammock every night. And anyone who has started a new game since the patch will get a great new recipe there.

Safe Haven at 45W 32S is still the best for me. Fishing, water, obsidian,3 banana trees, 1 nut tree, coconuts and there are 4 pigs and cappy's spawning a 3 minute walk North and the whole thing is protected by log walkways. The only downside is no bamboo but with the new drying rack needing regular wood, no worries. Enough room to build a big modular shelter by the water and another one near the cave.

I'm looking for a nice flat area with alot of bamboo... not an easy task.

I've found that behind the "Drug Den" is the best base. Lots of molernia (bandage plant), a near unlimited supply of Peccary, easy access to both bamboo and normal wood and a huge flat area to build your base on. (afterclearing out the little bush things.)
I have found a jaguar once and a few tribals, but never more than 2 at a time and the sightings are pretty spread out.
Also a pre-made Killer Trap really close by that catches Peccary almost daily.

Coordinates are: 50W, 28S
Current days Survived: 39

Check the drug laboratory. You can clear cocaine plants from the field ( creating big almost flat area )
Near are a lot of bamboo.

Best place is 52-16 Very Top Left or North East of the Map. There's a large cave there that has water-dirty in the back and an opening to allow campfire and water collection. The cave does have scorpions that respawn but they're very easy to kill. Natives stay out of the caves, they will literally stop at the entrance in fear.

Nearby is purple plant for curing venom. fish, birds, lizards, various small game. You have both wood and bambo to work with. Near the cave in bananas, and an unlimited supply of coconuts. I always find the bandage plant around the cave and it has a pre-made bed and shelter build, so you can save your game without having to build anything.

It's the exact opposite side from the safe haven that you see in the loading screen The nice place with the waterfall.

At more days you do have some native that will spawn near you , enough that you can hear they singing but I just stayed on the west part near my cave and had no problems with them. They left me alone and I was developing the area building, etc and hearing the songs of tribe.

Hmm i forgot the coordinates but there's a great cave (For me) where life in jungle is a joke. Infront of it there's a small unsafe pond. Using water filter from the close fishing dock is a good idea and if you will remember to every evening when back put water to filtrate and same in the morning so you never end dehydrated. Lots of capy's good fishing spot in the river delta. Sure tribal camp near but they never spawn infront of the cave. I detected them spawning on the way to River Delta but just avoid them. I will later edit and add the coordinates, but all interested propably know where. If you need sanity go hunt crabs in the lil river behind the tribal camp. Current day is day 21 and after clearing the village (day 10) im 100% safe living there without any punishment from anyone. Just in the largest cave room on the end build a shelter or log bed if you can, a fire pit, and in other rooms but not too close to the enter so tribals walking won't destroy them place stick holders water filters etc. also in this cave are no scorpions and some obsidian to deal with the village :D great choice beacuse even a new player will survive there. On the way to the river there are looooooots of capy's and the 15 fat giving nuts brazilian nut trees and on way to village lots of bananas . Best place to live, for me, place traps water filters and youre home just gotta go for real 3 min harvesting every two days and you can keep every bar up safe from any dangers.

Heaven is not safe at the moment. Natives spawn directly in the safe area and destroy my base.
Waiting for a hotfix.

i just loaded my haven save and had no issues. except 1 guy with a bone knife. jumped at my back while i harvested the armadillo at the small river directly north. after that: nothing. You already installed Hotfix Patch: V.0.4.1?

Could also find not one Tribesman near the Anaconda Camp since i killed the 2 hunters (before the combat update, not spearsmen patrol).

Of course I have the current version.

Also, if you dont wanna cut down all that drug bush stuff, simply head a bit west of the drug lab on the coast. lots of food, short hike to Tapir in the south, (watch out for the black Caiman) and a flat area that i stuffed 8 modulars into. Bamboo is across the river and easiliy obtainable via the rock path that is shallow water. I love it there.

My 2 favorites bases out of all them,
the fishing Dock 51'W 19'S also has a ton bamboo across the river also a small base on the top of the hill gives medium shelter and bow. 52'W 17'S - Bamboo camp.

The Anaconda Island , 35W 26S
I made the mainbase using current buildings destroyed some.
Made a smaller camp for cooking - cross the bridge at the southern end there is a track goes up and to the left, bananas grow there and plenty of Capybara , lots of wood. fruit.
Bamboo is available as well.

46'W 26'S - Abandoned camp near river with hammock has thatched roof, . is pretty good spot but unless your playing walk in the park natives visit same with a tiger.

My base is on Anaconda Island. So far I have not seen natives spawn ON the island, but I have had a caiman swim onto the island as soon as patch v0.4.0 hit. Shooting them in the back with arrows is useless. You gotta aim for the head now (love that change).

Anaconda Island has enough room for a rather spacious modular base and a few free standing medium bamboo shelters. Across the east bridge is the "wood" forest side and across the west bridge is the bamboo forest side. There is a bit of both growing on the island, but aside from clearing space to build, I try to maintain the natural beauty of my island by not leveling all the plant life. Furthermore, if you don't cut down the trees/plants that give off bananas, nuts or ceriman, then you basically have an endless supply.

Anaconda Island has:

* 3 Ceriman aka Monstera deliciosa plants (for carbs; doesn't spoil when picked)
* 1 banana tree (for carbs)
* 1 nut tree (for fats)
* 1 animal corpse for bones and maggots (for bone stew and fish bait)
* 1 pre-existing prawn trap (protein)
* water lilies growing in water along shore of island
* snails along the rocks at the edges of the island (protein, easy sanity if smoked)
* parrots, parrots and more parrots (protein, feathers, archery practice)
* yellow mushrooms (carbs) and orange cap mushrooms (carbs, -1 parasite)
* several coconut trees (for fats/carbs)
* occasional tobacco, unknown fruit (soursop the -2 parasite fruit) spawn on island
* occasional tobacco, Quassia Amara, Unknown herb (purple flower), etc just across east bridge
* endless tortoise spawn for unlimited shells and turtle meat
* caiman lizard, frogs and mice wandering the island at random (use stone/cage traps)
* endless fish if you build a few large fish traps; fish don't spoil sitting in traps (for protein)
* caiman (at least two, one on NE across from island and one on SW shore)
* loads of capybara 1-2 minutes walk from the island
* occasional honey spawn on a tiny island SW of Anaconda island connected by rocks
* natives don't seem to cross bridges; not sure if they spawn on the island (yet)
* prebuilt campfire under hanging tarp that is water proof

I have 3-4 water collectors w/ shells in each for easy clean drinking water.

On the prebuilt campfire I have 4 shells on it to have multiple soups going. The water's edge is 10 seconds from the campfire so I can use dirty water and boil it.

I destroyed the prawn trap and in its place have 3 large fish traps, holding 2 fish each at any given time. I'm still trying to test if they body block; if so, I can funnel the caiman that make landfall up one spot for easier killing.

I also have two drying racks set up so at any given time I have 4 shells of soup and 14 or so dried out meats.

The only notable dangers I have experienced on the island is the caiman from the northeast shore has swam across the lake and come out onto the island and attacked me. If you stand at the head of the anaconda and look NE, on the opposite shore, there is a tributary flowing into the lagoon. On the shore to the right of the mouth of the tributary is where the caiman comes out of the water when it's minding its own business and not swimming.

There is also a goliath bird spider on the south western corner of the island.

There are big cats in the area to watch out for; I've never encountered them immediately across the west bridge (bamboo side), but I often hear one not to far from the east bridge (wood side).

If I wasn't camped on Anaconda Island, I would probably choose Haven on the map (45W, 32S). That's where my original base was prior to the water update.
