What about adding a text version option for player banter? Like having that alongside the completely disabling the voice overs for the player banter.
When I'm chilling cutting down some trees, I break my thirtieth axe or whatever, and Jake starts saying something like "AAAHHH FUUU...". Like dude it's not such a big deal. Or when I start a fire on like day 30 or later and Jake is still so hyped about it.
I appreciate it when I don't have to listen to my character say something I can't relate to even though I'm pretending to be in his place.
I have exactly the same. Always when a tool breaks (I mostly carry a secondary or have prepared the materials to quickly make one) he yells "Stupid piece of ****", and I just go duuuuude, chill. I get the stress and everything, and it would be fitting if this broke on his first try at his first swing, but the tool did its job, AND you have a second one. It's all good man : P
