You can either go exploring make a new base say at the Village or Anaconda lagoon, the Drugs Cartel camp or the Fishing dock. each area has different challenges to overcome.
Then once you have completed that and discovered all the cool mud features then try the challenge.
I can never get bored and have a base all over green hell's abandoned camps.
I enjoy just the playing and being there then every so often we get these awesome updates that adds a new dimension.I've played over 400 hours and never get bored.
Find things to do .

Try and get up to the Stonehenge

When you play on Green Hell difficulty, you have permanent superdirt on your fingers after every move, which you have to wash away in multiple steps when it's not raining.
So to your question: If you build a camp (that gives you a lot of comfort) it just gets easier with time, unless you decide to make it harder. Throw all your stuff away, hurt yourself on 2 body parts, sleep in the dirt for one night and try to heal yourself again afterwards.
To the suggestion: more time for cut a tree
That would just be more grinding, 12 clicks instead of 4 clicks is not really exciting now either.
Maybe the AI will get its finesse at some point. (Random spawnpoints for animals at least.)
Currently the survival part quickly gets boring, because the prey is always on the same spot and even immediately spawns again, when you leave the area.
Metal and dirt offer more possibilities to grind longer and harder, but isn't really fun either. The fact that you need as much time to cut trees with an iron axe as you do with a stone axe makes iron somehow obsolete. Like the water filters, because you're always cooking anyway.
Apart from that, your craft level for bone armor is leveled very quickly, so the bone armor lasts quite a while with 95% durability. Probably even longer than the iron armor with 43% durability ...
Of course you can do a lot of nonsense in this sandbox to pass the time: Build huge cities for yourself alone, start a war against the natives and slaughter them all, stack big stones, stack all sorts of other things, make a house out of dirt and wonder how the natives have ruined it again with their little knives.
You can also try to light campfires in half the jungle until the natives spawn everywhere.
You can also play as madder (just eat a lot of raw human flesh). It's hard, but the sound is extremely annoying.
1. have seasons (flooding, more mosquitoes) like don't starve to give it longevity
2. Greatly increase the complexity of the tribes, and the players relationship to them (competing tribes, friendly tribes, trading)
3. More resources, rare items, clothing, camoflaouge etc.
Basically, the game is amazing, just lacks depth and longevity.
Contracting malaria or yellow fever would make it more immersive as a jungle surviving game. Getting nightly visits by vampire bats when sleeping outside might also do the trick.
Theres a drying rack pre built and a stone ring campfire exposed to the rain.
The plants randomly spawn and dont respawn in the same locations for long periods.
You got food though. But if you dont prepare right youll die within a few days, the Jaguar or group of 4 natives in the night will get you when you are fatigued. Ive been killed by the cat 3x in two games. He pounces when you least expect it. The water situation can be hard when you first go there if you arent ready. But thats what you want isnt it? A challenge right? So youll have to venture out often to get bamboo and get the Blue prints travel is easier if you prepare and know the map though. It has its pros and cons. But considering Ive been killed a few times maybe its the challenge you seek.
Dont go down there and use the hammock and the fireplace and drying rack as your camp though challenge yourself to build a base of mud. Dont camp the camp either explore the area some go further away to get your materials if you like eventually youll have to.
ALSO Do the CHALLENGES. Those are NOT easy. Especially the Walkie Challenge.
havent tried the new one yet. Anyway hope that helps to give ("you") @BLUE a better challenge.
