long stick not craftable?

I am trying to amke a stone spear. But i cant put a long stick on the crafting table. So how do i craft it?

left click the stick on the ground and craft from there.

Craft a stone blade first
Rightclick the long stick > craft>and it lands on the crafting table tab to open back pack grab the stone blade from a slot in the weapons add to crafting table with long stick add 1 rope. craft should now appear.
if you cant grab the stone blade drop it on the ground pickup with backpack open> r/click it and craft>adds to the crafting tabel. A little practise you'll have it under control..
BTW its rightclick not left click as mentioned :)
