Did you notice he never spoke to her out side of them. Neither did Mia. Everytime he tried to touch her she evaperated to dust. She was just there to bring Jake back to reality help him to remember and find the cure. He wanted to give it to her but it was too late she incouraged him to give it to the world. Which he decided to do in the end and he says thankyou to her in my ending and the plane comes an she is gone. Her last words to Jake were did you think I'm still waiting for you. The plane comes she vanishes.
I do believe there will be a sequel likely to be focused on Jake bring the cure back to jungle. Since these beautiful tribes were desimated by the actions of the drug lords.

Edit:
Just image that coop will be released at the end of the year that would be very creative of Creepy Jar if players could take the roll of Mia and Jake in the next sequel. Just my fantasy :)
Then the first cure caused the epidemic that is killing everyone, including Mia. Desperate for a repeat of his first discovery, Jake and the company head back into the jungle. Mia isn't happy that he left her in the hospital. Eventually, the company and other scientists give up in the jungle, Mia calls Jake and begs him to come be with her in her final days, but he stays as he is desperate to save her again.
We don't know how long it's been since he was left alone, but we can infer it was a long time. The tent is mildew-y and there's algae growing on the solar panels, for instance. Also, there's the state of the research camp. It's left ambiguous (intentionally, I think) as to whether or not Mia has died while Jake was in the jungle, but I think that it seems likely she did given the time elapsed. And I think Jake knows it, too. See the final scene with Mia in the cure ending. He thinks she's likely dead but still holding on to hope. The hope isn't dashed completely, but it does deem fleetingly small.
OP: So sorry about your sister. That's a terrible thing to have happen. I wish you peace, healing, and many wonderful memories of her.
About how much time has passed - that depends on you. You ran away when you got the voice mail from her, and ended up in the pond.
Dude I felt the voice acting was mediocre at best. The whole tutorial scene and several of her lines had me cringing at her deliver. I think the performance improved as the game went on but the earl parts had me wondering if it was rushed.
And people getting stuck on our original camp being grown over need to remember that camp is from the first expedition. Not from Jake going back to find the new cure. That camp can be at least 3-6 months old or more.
The second camp where you make the second cure I would think is maybe at most a month or two old. Bodies can turn to skeletons within weeks in the amazon so that explains the one guys body in the cave. And yea it took me 30 days to beat the game, so I was gone a good while and my Mia probably died with me looking for the new cure.
Do you have anything significant to say, or did you just feel like being an ass-hat?
