Rebuild Campfire

Do I really have to collect 12 big stones all over again?
Why would they disappear? When a fire burns out, the stones would be left behind. That is so time consuming, it is irritating.

There are three white dots left there though, I wonder what it means. It wont let me place a new campfire template over the spot where the old one was.

You only need to restore the fuel (wood), not the stones. That's probably a bug.

I don't see how to do that.
It's got three dots like it wants something, but it won't accept wood.

I was able to put a small fire inside of it and use those three spots for cooking, but I don't see how to build a campfire with the 5 spots where the old one was.

There are 3 fires. small fire no stones, campfire includes stones and stone circle add small fire inside.
Build stone circle then add small fire to it when this small fire burns stones remain.
The old campfire will likely have ash and charcoal pick these out first if you cannot build a small inside.
We can also put the fire our by dousing it with dirty water in a bidon and just need to relight it add some sticks to it or charcoal or dry fibre feathers also.

The problem is the campfire had 5 cooking spots and once it is out, there is no way to build a fire with 5 cooking spots in that place again. What is left behind is a circle with three spots where I can build a small fire in the middle.

The small fire adds 2 cooking spots to to the stones circle 3 spots . Have a Look at the screenshot, can you see stone circle has 3 cooking spots, look at the small fire see it has 2 cooking spots :)
If you need more cooking spots build a grill rack over the top or a bamboo smoker adds another 3 :)

That's ok many think there is 3 cooking spots on small fire when there is only 2 see screenshot for small fire, the 3rd ring you see in the small fire is where you light fire and douse fire to put it out. Its also bigger and in the center

I had 5, now I have 3.

Again, I cannot get 5 cooking spots again after the campfire is burned out. Not with circle, not with small fire, not with prayer.

Can you destroy the stones by hitting it with your ax? You probably won't get all stones back, but you should get at least half or more back. That way you won't need to gather 12 more stones.

That does sound like a bug. Makes me want to play around with it to record it and fill out a bug report for the devs...

I once had this strange bug, too, and if I remember correctly, I reported it.
But it is hard to recreate.
