Green Hell Despawning items
I have not played for a while and thought i would check out all the new updates, only to be disappointed with how quick items are despawning. I am not sure how the DEVs could be so stupid to think anyone would want its despawning at all let alone so quick. They give us the option to destroy items and at the same time make EVERYTHING despawn anyway lol. The chests are far to small and as you can not place blueprints next to each other they should realise that players like building just the frames of building to see if they can build what they would like to build in that location. Hence end out with loads of bamboo on the floor (no holders for bamboo) and trying to get mud bricks, stones etc ready, just to have it all despawn. Awesome job DEVs keep up the good work, destroying what was a great game

You're covering two issues really. The first one is about decaying objects and that's been implemented a few months ago in order to improve the overall performance; not everything decays, in fact there's a list here.
The second issue is one that i totally agree with because we should be able to lay out and snap together ghost structures in order to verify space and terrain consistency.

its not really two separate issues as one is affecting the other, with simple building materials despawning so quick and not even being able to put bamboo on holders it is affecting the building aspect as you cant just build frames really of other materials gathered will despawn as the despawn time is far to quick. so 1 need to be able to store bamboo 2 need to be able to build a stone holder 3 need to be able to store mud bricks

Explain this...the mud wall can't be placed without 2 things, the frame and the ghost. This is what I'm dealing with.

not to add, the front wall is missing.

I found an axe/hatchet at the fishing camp, early on, not far from where the camp is in the above SS. Went to pick it up and had no room for it so, I built a saving spot then, started to build a storage crate. Once done, I put a lot of my stuff in it then went back to get the hatchet, wouldn't ya know, it was gone. It has yet to respawn.

Another things that got me is, I threw my obsidian spear at an armadillo and he took off, I never found him and my spear is lost somewhere. What a waste.

I totally agree with you Hunter. This item 'decay' crap as the devs call it ruined parts of this game. I'm still angry about it and I would have gotten the refund but steam didn't let me. My items never made me lag that much anyway and the fact that building materials despawn just makes it even worse. To add to that there is no holders for bamboo. Rocks, iron ore, and obsidian despawn too, its nonsense. Maybe if the devs actually optimized the game for high end systems instead of making stuff despawn. GH still runs terribly on good hardware with or without tuns of items.

Item despawn didn't improve my fps at all. The update that brought item 'decay' made the game run a little worse if you ask me. Also, the mud chests are to expensive and time consuming to build because you have to be near a water source and set up the mud mixer, which reduces the total number of locations you can build at. Yeah waste time building crap that I wouldn't need if items didn't despawn. Who the hell needs to build chests to stop there stuff from growing legs and walking away, what a waste of time building storage at every new camp. It was nice when I could my put my stuff where I wanted too, but NO! ITEM DESPAWN IS CRAP!

The only solutions I can think of that may satisfy everyone is adding a option to turn off item despawn or at least disable despawn for items that are dropped by the player.

Oh wow, you removed your post. Oh well.

Same thing happened to me. I would expect to find my spear and the animal at some point.

HunterKiller, that should be posted in the bug reports section.
And please guys do not hijack other people's thread. This is way off topic

Another way to improve the performance of non despawning items would to to add a mechanic were if an didn't move of a while the physics would be turned off and the item set in place until picked up again.

No one is high-jacking anything, this is about despawning items. Please stop following people, me especially and telling me what I need to do. I have posted things in that forum and have not seen one reply to it yet. You don't run the show.

One is by design while the other is unintended. If you don't see the difference then we might have a bigger problem here.

I'm not following anyone. I'm politely asking users to leave a cleaner forum which is a reference for people looking for help. If we keep polluting it loses its purpose.

There is a specific team that reads that section and they probably prefer to spend their time on fixing bugs rather than answering. But they indeed read it.

well i have worked out a way to store the bamboo, rocks etc Build things like the fire ring and only put 11 rocks in it so you can dismantle it with Q to get all 11 back and things like bamboo frames, dryer etc
Virago Feb 1, 2020 @ 6:22am
Yes, that can be a good workaround but we still need a solution for the inability to snap together ghost structures.
Hunter Feb 1, 2020 @ 7:51am
yes i agree, i do still think they should give us the option of time on despawning rather than bowing down to fools that lag there game out and cant understand why lol

This is interesting ... I dropped a few feathers in the middle of the jungle 25 ingame days ago. I was hoping they would despawn but they are still there.
I also dropped a lot of items like cans, bones, etc. on the floor in my base. Everything is still there, too just like all building materials
