However, as I played more and more of the game it dawned upon me that dropping items in the world makes them feel much more concrete and like they dont just disappear to a pocket dimension called "storage". It changed my wishes from having a storage box to just having a "mat" or some sort of flat surface to put items on so you could see them at all times and manage them.
I don't know if saying any of this changes your mind, but your storages end up being literal stockpiles of useful materials and bidons containing precious soups and antidotes.
Essentially, what grows on you is the fact that unlike most games, your items do not disappear.
When you find the Cartel camp for example it has tables, also you craft items to weapons and place in a weapons stand. Many diferent types of stands blueprints included but are discoverable.
Agree we need more storage. Creepy Jar has added another slot on the backpack.
They are indevering to add lots of things.
Thats why the have specific forums like the What do you want see in the Game. Write your suggestions there

also some sort of leaf bed for food. I think placing my meat on the same ground is weird. plus if i sleep on the ground for a few hours i get worms but sticking my smoked meat on the ground for days is totally fine.
Can you?
