What baits to use in traps
ok so i have all the traps, but what to put in there, i tried many different stuff, but so far i only know that small fish traps catch fish when i insert the maggots.
but what to put in cage traps, killer traps, snare etc? and what does each one catch?

Stone Trap, no bait: Cane Toad, Mouse, Goliath Birdeater Tarantula, Brazilian Wandering Spider.

The fish trap does not require any bait, i have 3 fish traps, never put a bait in them & each fish trap catches at least 1 fish per day. I used a killer trap with no bait & caught a pecarry. Dont know about the other traps.

and does it matter where you place them?

I would say, Yes.

I have had success without using bait in any of the traps with the exception of the paiute deadfall. I have yet to catch anything with that trap, and I have used fruit, roots, larva, and maggots for bait. All other traps have returned food. Surprisingly the snare trap had more regular hits when I did not put any bait. That could have also been that I was pushing the animals but I don't know if that has any bearing.

For trap placement I suggest you put them as close to the edge of your zone. they seem to trip faster when you're not around. I have some set right next to my base and they usually are filled when I return from carb hunting.

weird, i only had success with the deadfall that exists near the drug den, i put native meat in there and snake meat, and i caught boars regularly. could be the meat, but could be that they are running around there anyway and trigger the trap.

I haven't used all the traps, but those I have used have always caught something when I return to them from a different zone.
Some of my traps are placed in random areas without any bait, I could be wrong but I think they have a random chance of catching something no matter if they are baited or not and placement doesn't really seem to have much impact either, I catch things in traps at locations where I never see these types of animals roaming - Again I could be wrong, but to me the traps seems to not have much special location requirements or bait to catch something :)

I'm not sure if bait mechanic is implemented yet. I don't see any difference between using bait and without bait. My trap always catch something so I don't even bother using bait.

Just build an animal trap where you can see animals roaming about. If you build a snare trap or killer trap near an area where you see capybara or peccary around, you can trap them. No need to use bait.

Build the trap, set it and walk away. When you come back there'll be one in the trap. Take the animal down, reset the trap and walk away again. When you come back there'll be another one ready. Repeat as many times as you want.

Just remember, stone/cage trap if you want to catch mouse/cane toad, snare/killer trap if you want to catch capybara/peccary. You need to place the trap in the area where you can see that animal around. I doubt that you can catch capybara if they don't spawn in that area. Same with cane toad or any other animals.

The only trap that I haven't fully tested is the killer trap. Every other trap is working just fine without bait.

Also you will need to leave the area for it to catch something. If you build a trap next to your camp and you stay in that area all day long, I doubt you'll catch anything.
