Soup is the BEST! Soupthread
"Edit: 09.01.2019: Soups can´t be filled into bidons at the moment. The devs plan to reimplement that feauture into the game again later. The way it worked just broke the game so they have to rework it (maybe spoiling timers for soups etc.) A lot of people commented again the last days so have in mind that this post is from 15. sep. 2018 a lot of things changed.

Here is the link with the respond from the developers on why you can´t fill soup in bidons anymore: https://steamcommunity.com/app/815370/discussions/1/1742227898980483033/ "

Hey guys, i just wanted to tell you how i broke the game completly in terms of food supplie. If you are new or want to find out how to survive on your own you better should stop reading the following is a "pro tip" (don t really want to call it so but i dont know another word) so SPOILER ahead be careful.

I am still figureing out some things but the point is this:
You can cook different type of soups. The best ones I think is the meat soup with capybara meat. It gives you 72 proteins, 22 Fats, 15 energy and hydration. The other one is the cassava soup from the unknown bulp (long white thing that drops from the bushes with red flowers). If you eat that thing raw it will give you food poisening but if you cook it in a soup damn that thing is juice. It gives you 50 carbs, 10 energy and hydration.
Ever got biten by a snake and struggled with the fever? You either need a bed to rest the fever or cook a soup with these red flowers called Quassia Amara. So another important soup that we can cook to heal our fever instantly.
Now here comes the clue. You can fill these soups in your bidons by droping a bidon next to the fire, then cook the soup and drag the pot or coconut shell on your bidon (i would recomment you to do it with the pot so you can get 30 parts of soup by using just one soup ingredient. Coconuts can only carry 10 parts of water/soup). So you can carry six coconut bidons and the metal bidon which gives you a total of 340 parts of water. Now the second clue, if you fill your soup that you stored in your bidon into a coconut half and consume it from the half and not from the bidon, you only consume 10 parts of soup and get the full nutrients. Which means you can have for example one bidon with the anti fever soup aka Quassia Amara infusion and three bidons with meat soup and three bidons with Cassava soup. Maybe the metal bidon with Meat soup. Sou you have 300 parts of soup which you can consume in servings of 10 parts in the coconut half so that means you have 30 servings of food in your inventory and DAMN these servings are full of nutritions. Plus the instant fever healing.

Now things that we still have to find out. How about a fat bomb soup? Was serching for unknown nuts since two days but i have the feeling the nuts don t like the dry weather, haven t found one in days. Also i heard rumours about Paranuts which lie under the very big trees, have never found one of these. So i am curious if we can cook a fat bomb soup with that. Also i want to find out if these blue mushrooms that give you 10 energy by eating it raw will increase the amount of energy they give when eaten as soup. That would be awesome.

So guys get your fire started, collect all this crazy stuff in the jungle and make soups. Tell me about your experiments and results. I am excited

Oh and maybe I should mention that soups and brews will not decay :)
LaOldi Sep 15, 2018 @ 2:49pm
Update: Cant cook a soup with nuts sadly but 22 fats from the meat soups is still very good and may be enough in combination with some coconuts.

Also i recalculated to make it more clear:
-3 bidons of Cassava soup = 120 units of soup = filled in coconut halfs 12 servings = each 50
carbs / 10 energy / 10 hydratio) (Carbs like 24 bananas)
-3 bidons of meat soup (one is the metal bidon) = 180 units of soup = 18 servings = each 72 proteins / 22 Fats / 15 energy / 10 hydration
- 1 bidon with Qassia Amara infusion = 40 units = 4 servings of instant fever healing.

In combination with the random food you run into you can stay out there in the jungle for a week without caring about food and fire at all.

And still i can t find the blue shrooms anymore, i know they grow on those big trees but not for me at the moment. So please can someone tell me what happens when you make a soup with blue mushrooms?

That´s the reason why i have located soups at every camp on the ground ;)
But the new information to fill the soup into bidons and refill for consuming into shells is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AWESOME!!!
But to be honest: it´s no need to make a soup for fats - coconuts are always available.

Well that answers my questions. So the meat soup from capybara is the best source for fats and proteins and cassava soup is the best source for carbs. The blue mushrooms will give 15 energy when cooked in a soup... interesting. Maybe i will change my metal bidon in 100 parts of mushroom soup = 100 energy plus the energy from the other soups...That will be a nice run and all without spoiling food :)

Bone stew, coconuts, meat soup, unknown nut, eggs (hard to find at the moment since bird nests are kind of legendary and if i find one the eggs are bugged in the wood or invisible), also i heard rumours about a big nut that falls from the big trees. I even saw a streamer with nut shells of it in his backpack but never found one myself (Eggs and this nuts are not in the list above so i guess they are buggy or not in the game right now)
I would say thats a good variety of fat source. And most fish have very low fat so its kind of okay with that. There are some fat fishes like catfish, eel and mackerel but they dont live in the amazon. Maybe we will get a fat fish later :)

There are plenty of carb sources. They are just tricky to get :D But if you know all of them you find at least one on each run.
Obvious things first: Mushrooms give Carbs. The big ones (you have to cook) even give 10 or 15. The orange unknown Fruit (like tomato) gives carbs, too and there are more then enough on my way :) Also Coconuts are a good Carb source. And the best obvious source are Bananas, long lasting and 25 carbs each, very good.
Now the tricky things: The unknown bulp (Cassava) gives you tons of Carbs (50 in one portion of soup) haven´t cooked it yet but I bet you will get 55 or 60 when cooked since soup always loses a bit of nutition. Next is the Palm heart from the small palms with a red peak, just chop the palm down and you can eat the heart raw, gives you 45 carbs. And finally the Honey from the bee hives, not hard to get and 25 carbs + 5-10 (I believe?) sanity thats awesome.
So there are plenty of food resources and if you know all or most of them you will find food on every corner.

All the carbs you'll ever need. If you get ceriman fruit or only see the unripened flower is kinda gambling. Never found the malanga bulb yet, the plant is pretty hard to find and looks very generic.

Ah yeah i missed the ceriman fruit, very good source, too but also rare. The malanga bulb must have been added in 0.2.0, never saw it, too and haven´t played since the update. Thanks for the link, much more clear then my writing.

Nope, i thought the same first, but according to wikia picture history, that pic of the malanga got added September 12, 2018. So either it was already in with the 0.1 release.. or the devs ninja'ed it in with one of the pre 0.2 patches.

Possible it was there all the time. I mean it is just a green plant. I would not be surprised if I just missed it all the time :D I look for things that look suspicious and then I try what it is or if it is anything at all but maybe I should start trying to hit every plant I see :D

i just eat human meat. if you combine it with boiling water, it bugs and turns into regular meat stew. if that feels like cheating, you could simply eat one slab of villager a day and be perfectly fine so long as you also eat coconuts.:steamhappy:
