Green hell is more focused on survival. There are 4 nutrients you have to be aware of + different afflications. Building, as of now, is not very deep/complex yet but that's what I like since to be honest, building a fortress like you can in Forest is killing the immersion.
In The Forest you can scramble around a lot more. You do have basic survival needs but the major threats are the cannibals and mutants. The Forest area also seems to be easier to traverse. Your inventory is astronomically huge. And the custom building is about the best I've ever seen in a game. You can build grand structures like an amusement park, utilizing cranes and zip lines. You can sled down hills on a turtle shell. The game is just so damn fun it shoots itself in the foot storyline wise, because nobody wants to rescue Timmy. They just want to build something big and awesome!
Green Hell is more like the show Naked and Afraid. You have more believable bag space and your structures have to be built like real ones, in a certain order and nothing is going to be grandoise. Your (in)sanity means a lot more here and is a measure often used to punish you for not tending to yourself. You have to inspect yourself often when leaches, worms, or the like get a hold of you. You also have to eat right. You have carbs, fats, and proteins to worry about, other than then usual hydration. The amazon can be hard to navigate. Not only do you want to restrain from sprinting everywhere because of rattlers, but you also have a lot of cliff faces that constrain you.
OH and Green Hell is meant to have an episodic storyline.
I would not say if you like The Forest, you should play Green Hell. They are very different. That said, I think Green Hell will attract many Forest fans just because of the setting and both having natives involved.
Both games are top notch in my opinion. Though Green Hell still has to prove itself.
I agree with the comparisons to the Long Dark
But now just Imagine what a nightmare it would be to place in a jungle without "google searches and save reloading".. you know what i mean ;)
Yeah, but nobody wants to experience the exact realism of surviving in the Amazon unless they're psychopaths. There's a line between fun and realism, and GH leans a bit too much on the realism.
