Maintaining a burning fire?
So, my biggest problem right now is figuring out how to maintain and feed my fire.
What things impact my fires burn time? I know rain probably impacts it a lot, but are there other factors?
I've added sticks as more fuel, though much like a real fire it seems that overfeeding it may actually put it out, is this correct?

Never tried overfeeding, why should we though? So thats not important but you can test it. Anyhow the important stuff: Rain impacts it. It will go out quit quick and currently there is a bug where the fire will go out if you leave your place too far.
To protect it: build in cave, build a shelter or a smoker over it

How do I build a smoker?

You have to find one, for now build a simple shelter (the one with a open side) and put the file under it, make sure you rotate the fire so so can get to both cooking spots.

I've actually found a medium bamboo shelter and a proper firepit. It's currently where I have my home. And a short walk from there, there's an abandoned river base with a fishtrap!

Yep, nice spot. I made a fort of shelters to keep the pesky locals (they make great soup btw) for attacking easily.
