The same purpose as Maggots or something else?

throw em on a camp fire, and eat em, crunchy tasty morsels they are. Gives small protein boost in a bind, plus they stay alive a while so easy to keep fresh compared to harvested meats. You lose a little sanity when not cooked (IIRC not when they are cooked)

If you use coconut bowls next to a camp fire and fill them with water and drop a Larvae in the bowl you will get a protein soup with no negitive sanity effect, works with maggots as well.. You can also harvest many of the spoiled fruits and get more larve that way, harvesting spoiled meat gives you maggots which can also be used on infected wounds.

ahh, knew about larva, did not try maggots as I had been keeping a few for their other use!

I am aware of the use for cooking... I was more wondering if they had a use other than that, like the maggots do for wounds. Can they be used for bait in certain traps for example.

p.s. I also seem to catch a lot of piranha using maggots in fish traps. But only 1 meat with little protein gain from them.

I don't bother with bait in the traps, they seem to work better without bait. The cool thing with fish is you get fishbones which work for removing worms. But they take up way less space in your backpack than the bone needles. I just set out a bunch of fish traps because unlike the traps on land, the fish stay alive in the trap so you can come back at anytime to collect them.

I like to set aside half of the meat to harvest maggots with and just lay them out someplace to spoil so I can come back and get more maggots to clean wounds with. Just set your fish traps close to shore so you don't get bit by piranha while wading out to them.
