In all fairness the red is needed to tell all of us and that is everyone who plays this game not just you.
It's not a hard game to master sorry.
A fix was released so we can now deconstruct just the mud leaving the frame.
There is already discussion on the need for terraforming. That I agree is needed.
Here's a sample of my bases i have about 11
This is my new base at the Cartel drugs lab

The fact is, if I could build a wall with bamboo sticks, I should be able to build it with regular sticks (and the other way around). For the game not to let me kills the immersion.
I'm glad you haven't had the problems I've had; but that doesn't mean I haven't had them. I know it's not a hard game to master. I survive just fine. But, that doesn't make it any less frustrating when a mud fireplace just sits there "red" over an already built stick wall when there is nothing in the way. It needs to be addressed and fixed, not excused away.
I'm not even asking for "terraforming," either. I just want construction that makes sense.
I'm not sure what you think the red is necessary to "tell everyone who plays the game." I'm not asking to get rid of the red altogether; but if you need the red to tell you that you can't build a shelter in thin air, at the bottom of a pool, or over the side of a cliff, then maybe you've got a problem. I'm just asking to get rid of the red when it is perfectly reasonable for me to build there. If I could put a structure there IRL, I should be able to put one there in the game, no? Let's see your screenshots of a shelter using a cliff wall as one of the walls. I would do that if I were really building a shelter in the jungle. It makes sense. In the game, however, I can't put a shelter within a few feet of a cliff wall. No reason. Nonsense. Let's see your screenshot of how close you can put a shelter to a cave opening. IRL, I would be able to put a shelter right in front of the "plane crash" cave (almost an extension of the cave itself). In the game, however, it goes red when its within several feet of the opening even though it's touching nothing. No reason. Nonsense.
If I can build a shed, I should be able to put the mud wall around the shed, right? I have a perfectly good shed connected to my shelter on the flat mud by the "haven" pool. The shed and mud roof built with no problems. There are no rocks or logs in the way. The mud wall snaps into place, but just stays red. No build. No reason. Nonsense. That same shelter will only allow me to build a wall on one side. The other sides just snap into place as red. Again, there is nothing visible in the way, and the shelter built just fine. The one wall it will let me build is on the side facing the trail -- exactly where I wouldn't want a wall. No reason. Nonsense.
Don't negate the problem just because you love the game. I love the game, but this is a major, frustrating, game-ruining problem that wastes a large amount of game time and building materials. It wrecks a lot of the fun, and it needs to be fixed.
If nothing is in the way and its on a flat surface save and exit the game Restart the game and reload your save then try to place it. It helped many times with mud walls not placing.
Im sure you're doing everything right and the land is level its just doing that to do it.
Dont worry they will get to the bottom of it, just dont loose your patience with Mud building it is still very new to the game and they are working as issues arise to patch problems.
I hope that helps you. If it doesnt work place something else there to prevent entry. It sucks but its like that for now at least. One wall I have a stickwall and no mud on after reloading multiple times like I suggested to you. BUT it was on an incline and thats likely why just weird it would build the stick wall but not the mud wall. Dont loose your patience remember its still early access and the Mud update is very new. Things will run smoother with time. Have patience and have faith in the Devs.
one solution for me was to build mud walls with a window so the poles from the front mud shed wall went through it.

What I would like to see are walls that fill in the angled and half wall shed sides. I often put two sheds side by side but you can't seal them off with walls. The current mud wall wraps around one but you can't put another beside it. That defeats the purpose if you have a wall in the middle of the two sheds.
Sorry a little off topic but I agree the red wall for no apparent reason is annoying.
Oh why no palm or banana leaf walls?
I worked around it.
Have a full mud house with all the frills on Green Hell difficulty in the starting area and another two satellite bases further in to the map that aren't as developed but do the job.
There are a couple of things that don't work and a bit annoying, like I couldn't build properly on the floor above my dryer but I just trashed things until it allowed me and carried on.
I'm not saying they shouldn't have fixed it but - honestly - for the problems it caused me and how long it took me to work around it, I'm not sure it's even worth fixing and it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game.
But, hey - that's just me. Each to their own.
I'm fairly new though, still don't know all of the tricks yet.

That looks fairly flat and clear ... Not sure why that's flagging red.
It is on a slope though, a little. Not something I would have said was too much but - eeeeeee - maybe on the back end.
You need flats to make a base.
When I got in to one of those - Bullsh*t that's fine scenarios - I rotated the frame and it went white.
Then when you get one good, the rest follows. Even if it didn't look like it did before.
Subsequent frames are way more forgiving than the initial one. I had one mud frame that was underground that took me ages to trigger to fill it up because it wasn't visible.
Funny enough, I quite playing a couple years ago because of this and the problem still remains.
I do love the game but this problem is so annoying. There should be an option to turn off building restrictions, I think Ark did that and it worked out great.
Another have finished building. haha
Edit: I had another wall in the way, and i'm a dummy. Apparently you might not be able to build a mud wall if you are starting another wall next to it at the corner wall. Annoying, but my fault.
