Difficulties with Sanity.
I am playing on Normal Mode.

I keep dying on Day 2 or 3 of Survival. Mostly because I am a new player.

Sanity seems to be my big issue. For the life of me I can t stop my sanity from falling so quickly. And worse; I can't seem to repair it fast enough!

Leeches are bloody annoying. I swear, every 2 minutes; I need to take leaches off my body (even when I do not go into the water at all). Leeches sap me pretty quick. I try to take them off as soon that I can.

When I eat 'picked foods' or drops. My sanity really does not go up at all. Perhaps not even by a point. When I sleep in my leaf bed; the only bed that I can build so far. Sleep does not repair my Sanity at all. Not even by 1 point. All night long.

Then the delusion Tribes guys come to attack me. I will play on for 30 minutes with empty sanity, and Tribal attacks. Delusions. And the constant 'negative' talking thoughts really annoys my game play. And the Tribal hooting and hollering every 2 seconds. It drives me nuts and actually just gives me a headache over the many minutes. I literally needed to pop an Advil.

Can anyone help me figure out how to repair my Sanity levels quicker? Early game.

Cooked meat is a very good source. Also standing beneath a fire will raise your sanity.

Cooked meat seemed to pick up my sanity just a little bit. Maybe by 7%

The Fire is too low. Only 2 points sanity per 40 seconds or so. It is way to slow. I would be there all night beside the fire until Sanity capped out.

Is it possible to "go to sleep" beside an active fire? Where the sanity points pick up, while I 'quick sleep'? Because sleeping without a fire, does not pick up my sanity at all. I can only build the Palm Leaf bed right now.

I understand that sleeping by a fire will attract Tribes people though. And that might not be great.

I have only played the story mode (on normal) so far, so I don't know if there are differences.

I noticed that in the first days I neglected my sleep and I had to sleep a lot (!) in order to get the "zzz" meter down. But this didn't cause hallucinations and afterwards I never again really had problems with sanity. I am always well equipped with herbal bandages and I use to take care of leaches, rash and anything else immediately.

You didn't eat human flesh, did you?
Mr. Goblin Nov 14, 2019 @ 10:48am
yuck. no eating humans.

Does Sanity ever go UP again; after the leaches are taken off?

In my Story game, it seems my sanity does not go back up to healthy again. The leaches, leach it away, and then the sanity just sits in the negatives.
Skarmo Nov 14, 2019 @ 11:17am
Yes, it does go up if you eat cooked things, stand near the fire long enough etc.

Maybe just like me ignoring my sleep needs you haven't taken care of the leaches for too long right in the beginning? And now your value is so much down, it will take really long to get it up to normal again?

I don't know. I've had every single problem this game offers - many, many times - but I never had hallucinations. Except for the one time I tried cannibalism. (I am convinced, though, that this never happened. No, it must have been in a dream. Must have.)

Haha.

What difficulty level do you play on?

maybe that I am leaving on the leeches for a bit too long. Hm.
I pick them up every two seconds. It gets pretty annoying.

Cooked meat. And then staying by a fire all night. Hm.

By normal mode, I'm guessing you mean "Welcome to the Jungle" setting?

Try building the Hut Shelter instead of a leaf bed and small Shelter. You should be able to build it from the very start. I'm not sure if the leaf bed is different, but I always get a "Comfortable Sleep +3 sanity" message anytime I sleep in the Hut Shelter. Here are some things to do regularly to keep your sanity up:

- Make soup from the meat and boil the bones for soup as well. like others have pointed out, eating cooked foods are a great way to keep your sanity topped off.

- Avoid sleeping on the ground. It will result in -1 to -3 Sanity for "Uncomfortable Sleep" and you could get worms under your skin. You will lose sanity if you don't pick them out with a bone needle or fish bone in a timely fashion.

- Avoid passing out from zero stamina. Again, uncomfortable sleep and worms under the skin.

- Watch your status bar like a hawk. I struggled with this for a long time and would often leave on the leeches long enough to take a sanity hit. As soon as you seen the little magnifying glass icon, search your body and pull them off ASAP.

Honestly, it's very difficult to recover once your sanity drops low enough to hallucinate. The game seems more focused on prevention and there's not much in the way of a quick fix. There were a few times that I ate the meat and bones from 4+ animals, just to recover my sanity enough to stop the hallucinations. Learning the map and knowing the best areas to hunt and where to go to learn new recipes, will make life much easier.

I'd like to see a screenshot from your current game. If your sanity goes down that fast I'd assume that you have quite a number of parasites or worms or whatsoever. Or you possibly stay up too long and sleep less than you need. It's just a guess, as I said: I need to see a screenshot to give you any advice for your problem.

From my experience: on normal mode it's pretty easy too keep you in a very good condition with sanity always maxed out. So there must be a problem which you are probably not aware of.

Nice. Thanks fellas.

So, I am on Day 16 now. And having better luck.

Eating meat, and throwing maggots and grubs and snails into soup, seem to do well in picking up my Sanity. I actually was able to go from zero sanity to about 95% repaired, after eating 12 bowls of 'strange' soups; and eating a bit of Crab meat and Parrot meat.

Also; ripping off those Leeches as soon as the magnifying glass shows; has helped reduce the downward spiral of -Sanity loss.

Now; I seem to be struggling to keep my Fats up. Tough to find nuts and pine cones.
They just don't seem to come around much near those trees. I tend to find coconuts more often, and they give some Fat. But I can't find them often enough! Haha.

I have no issues keeping hydrated and the carbs up.

Leeches, Check your health bar when you see the inspection tool check arms and legs for leeches. Click to remove, use right mouse hold down to rotate arm and leg until inspection tool disappears.
That simple.
Also check your smart watch use scroll button check thirst . Carbs, minerals fats.
Drink lots of water you should be able to control sanety . If you cant get fresh water during rain times using half coconut shells and or bidons fruit.. collect orange cap and blue mushrooms drink unsafe water eat blue mushrooms and orange cap to remove stomach bugs.

Glad you made it, Mr. Goblin!

Best source of fat are the bigger mammals. Good hunting!

Ha! Need a bow for that.

Have not yet learned how to build a snare.
DeadSilent Nov 14, 2019 @ 6:34pm
Make a Spear and go hunting. The spear can be thrown, just aim for the head and you'll one shot most critters with even the weakest spear. If you hit it with a spear and it runs off, chase it! It'll eventually die from blood loss. Meat soup is a great source of fat and protein as well as soup made from the bones.

The most efficient way I found to raise the sanity up by a significant amount is to burn through a bunch of cooked meat, or meat soup. Go kill an extra animal or 2 (in excess of your food supply) and just keep cooking more meat soup or eating each piece of meat. I try to save my game often enough that I don't get "stuck" at a bad spot.

Edit: This helps if you use a meat drying rack and place meat on it to dry from an animal or 2, then go find a couple more and just keep cooking. By the time your prepared again you have a fresh stock of meat. (or you know, reload the prior save file!)
