Unlocking the planting box.

Does anyone else think its strange that picking up a large stone unlocks the planting box. Wouldn't it make sense if picking up a plank could unlock the small planter and picking up a log could unlock the large planter as these are the materials you need the build planters. Maybe the original recipe for the planters was large stones instead of logs and planks.
Maybe its a small bug?

I didn't have to pick up anything. As soon as I logged in (to survival mode) I heard the little scribbles in the notebook and box blueprints were there.

Maybe its because you already picked up large stone in that save.

Mine unlocked when i harvested fruit for seeds.

Maybe many different items can unlock it.

Yeah i had a thread on this too, some say it unlocks when harvesting seed, for me it was picking up a nut?!
I think its different for everyone, some say it unlocks from just running around or its already in the craft book on loading.
