How do you boil water? And one other question...
Im still camped out by the initial waterfall pool in the game, just trying to stabilize myself from all my early mistakes and injuries. But water is becoming a pain. I do have some mushrooms that allow me to remove parasites when I drink unsafe water, but how do you actually boil water? Do you have to get a turtle shell like I keep hearing, or are there earlier methods.

Also, can you make items you don't have the recipe for if you have seen them online? Will it allow them to be crafted without knowing the recipe/blueprint? Thanks!

yes you can craft stuff without knowing the blueprint thats why i always have a spear and axe before the end of day 1 though looking up online kind of spoils the fun

boiling water requires at minimum a fire and 2 coconuts

when you get a coconut make a coconut bidon to carry water

collect water

using a 2nd coconut you get 2 empty coconut halves that can be used as bowls

place the 2 coconut bowls by a fire light the fire and then place the dirty water in the bowls and wait to boil

thats your early game water filter

there are of course other ways to get water like certain fruits give water coconut water...is water etc

Some things that require a BP placed to be built cannot.
There are some coconuts around but maybe head north to the village. Follow stone wall not far away
Make base there :)

Awesome thanks! I did make a coconut bidon. Just need to make the coconut halves out of another one.

I haven't wanted to spoil my recipes from online guides as much, so I haven't memorized them after glancing to see what there is on the wiki.

So far it's been really rewarding figuring things out, but my dude is dying of thirst and I'm running out of parasite killing mushrooms. Thanks for the tips, my friends!

Oh one more thing? Do resources respawn? If I eat from a banana tree, will more grow eventually? Fish in the water come back? If not, I guess I'll slowly eat my way through the jungle lol.

find a coconut, harvest it, to split it in half harvest it again to take out the coconut flesh so you can cook it and you're left with a coconut bowl which you can boil water in, but only at 10 units ata time, you can also leave said bowls out in the rain for them to fill up with clean water
yes food resources do respawn, including caimans and jaguars

Resource nodes (rocks, fruit, nuts, etc.) respawn as well as animals and fish. Trees however do not respawn. So for example, if you harvest those bananas the node will eventually regrow. If you chop the whole tree down, it will not.

Okay, so harvesting all bananas is okay, but obviously not chopping the tree down. Good thing I saved my banana trees!

Is there a way to knock coconuts off trees or do you have to wait for them to fall on their own?

Thanks for the help everyone! Seems like coconut halves are a good way for clean water. Just get a bunch of them out there in a line and wait for rain or boil water if they all empty.

Then go find other filter methods later.

You can knock them down easily -- Middle mouse button with the axe or spear will throw it.
You can throw rocks with the "g" key.

and yes, Coconuts are essential.

You should’nt need to boil water at all. Once you have 4 coconut halves out you’ll get enough water from the rain to get by. 6 halves or more and water won’t be an issue at all. There is also a metal pot to find as you progress, which is slightly bigger. I only started boiling water to make soups later on in the game.

In all honesty, in the story mode on normal difficulty, if you know the route, I don’t think you even need to build a base. The supplies you scavenge from locations should just about be enough.

Cool thanks! Will see how it goes.

Found out I lost all my progress because even though I built a shelter that saves the game, sleeping in it doesn't save. Must have been another interaction I didn't see. This bites, but maybe I'll get a better start now.

The save-option should b at the top of the shelter.
