What items do and do not disappear when left on the ground?

Specifically, if its a special spawned item like cans, do they disappear? What about tools such as the machete, or spears?

I've noticed that most things, including coconut bidons, bone knives, and arrows disappear. I have not seen the bow you can find in the bamboo encampment disappear.

Well that's a great question. I wish I knew. It seems that there is no way to tell what will despawn and when it will. How I am intended to manage my resources if I don't know when they will disappear. This update ruined this game for me. I can't play it anymore. I heard someone say items are intended to despawn within a week but my stuff just disappears when ever it wants.This game is kind of broken...

I think an items which is important for the progress of the story (key at the airfield) just despawned. Don´t know how.

Proposed solution:

1. Items near player made buildings have increased despawn timer. E.g. 7 days.
   
2. Items near player made buildings have their despawn timer reset when a player is nearby.
   
3. Items in Storage Boxes should not despawn.

I have lost a lot of items and time to #3...

In my (survival) game dry leafs and paranuts (bowls) are vanished.
Soups i´ve made and other stuff is still there where i put it on the ground.

I think despawn is the same on both, but I'm in story mode.

It's from 2019, so I wouldn't rely on it.

In my experience, any weapon or tool, whether crafted or found (& handled) left lying around will despawn. Best to craft a weapons rack ASAP if you want to hold onto them.
