The biggest and most noticeable expansions to game-play (not counting the challenge modes) are Relics-of-Chaos (as a game-mode setting that adds extra items that carry both advantages and weaknesses) and the Forgotten-World (dinosaur-land as others mention).
What's interesting about the Forgotten-World is that a player can actually access it before the final sections within Abandoned-Tower (final main story boss area) along with the Legendary Keepers challenge area.
In other words - you can have a team of dinos before the final story boss and may even have defeated the Legendary Keepers before that too.
Pokewhat? Trashmon? Nah man, I like my devs customer friendly, keep that to yourself.
We need more games like this and I hope other game design teams take a hint.
