This is what I had in mind. Either you're a captain searching for the One Piece or it would be an Alternate Universe where you're also recruited to the Straw Hats and have small choices that either don't affect the story in a huge way, or it changes YOUR personal story within the story, or big changes that warp the story to a whole new adventure as a fun "what if" story (like Dragon Ball Xenoverse)
That's true I hadn't considered that. Kind of like One Piece's version of a sharingan. Once you see the move you can learn it and apply it to your skillset. Seriously the more I think about stuff like this the more I'd want it. Like it would be kinda neat (though a whole different story and probably impossible) to create an MMO or a No Man's Sky type deal where the main goal is searching the world for that One Piece yourself. Either way a One Piece game with character creation would be so much fun especially with the One Piece art style giving you so much variety in making your character unique.
Cause of how boring and bland DB is, all people basically shoot lasers and balls in different colors, so you can create a game with hundrets of chars without much thought put into them, since they are mostly all the same.
In "One Piece", the chars are more refined and their powers are basically like another character trait, instead of shouting a different name for another laser.
So creating a char would mean that you have to copy the exact moveset of another char, or find a way to combine here and there, so you can stretch your arms while fighting with 3 swords.
EDIT: What could also work would be, if the writer makes you the main char while giving you a completely new fruit/power that nobody else has.
Yeah, I've also had a copy power in mind.
Normally, I'm not much into speculating about non-existant games, but what would be dope would be a system like in "Bio Prototype" (one of the many "Vampire Survivors" clones).
Without explaining much about the game, it would work in a way that your char shoots out his hand, while the hand is in the air, it throws a fireball, and when it lands, it creates an ice field.
Outta the icefield grow arms and legs which stomb all over the place, and whenever a bodypart stomps something, a pool of magma appers.
Kinda excessive, but this is how said game works... you build a super impressive domino-effect with rather simple powers, and at the end, you have a fireworks off attacks.
Either that or farming in the Cake Isles.
