Would character creation work in the One Piece universe?
Never watched One Piece (I can't commit to that many episodes lol I'm sorry), but I always loved the designs and the concept. So just to throw a wrench in the discussions that seems to be just random reviews I felt like asking a question for discussion's sake.

Other anime games allow you to create your own character and live among legends in their respective universe. Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Naruto Shinobi Strikers (wish they did it on the storm series or just an ACTUAL story mode for this one), One Punch Man, Attack on Titan 2, etc.

So with that said, would character creation work in the One Piece universe? like, would being a crewmate with Luffy and gang experiencing their story while you have yours alongside theirs would work? Dragon Ball made it work by making you a time traveler with trunks, Shinobi Strikers technically doesn't count since it's a multiplayer focused game, One Punch Man had you being a hero like any other, and Attack on Titan had you with the scouts experiencing their story as a nobody. So I'm curious if One Piece could one day maybe incorporate a game where you make your own character to hang out with Luffy and gang, or maybe you have your own crew and run into their gang or something.

I just felt like talking about this as a fan of character creation video games. Plus I'm bored right now lol

i mean, it could possibly work its just that some story moments would have to be changed to incorporate the player character, the only issue i see is that all the major boss fights luffy takes the lead so it would be hard to stay true to the one piece story and have a cac so much so that the easy option is to make the player replace luffy and force the gum gum fruit onto the player, so take that how you will

As a huge/longtime fan I'd love to see this in a One Piece game, a lite choices matter combat rpg where the straw hats feature heavily in the storyline and you are a random captain searching for the one piece and you can assume either the protagonist or antagonist role.

This is what I had in mind. Either you're a captain searching for the One Piece or it would be an Alternate Universe where you're also recruited to the Straw Hats and have small choices that either don't affect the story in a huge way, or it changes YOUR personal story within the story, or big changes that warp the story to a whole new adventure as a fun "what if" story (like Dragon Ball Xenoverse)

That would work. Just make an excuse that player ate a devil fruit that let him "copy" skills from other characters. Then let player travels along with the party and learn their skills or from bosses after beating them.

That's true I hadn't considered that. Kind of like One Piece's version of a sharingan. Once you see the move you can learn it and apply it to your skillset. Seriously the more I think about stuff like this the more I'd want it. Like it would be kinda neat (though a whole different story and probably impossible) to create an MMO or a No Man's Sky type deal where the main goal is searching the world for that One Piece yourself. Either way a One Piece game with character creation would be so much fun especially with the One Piece art style giving you so much variety in making your character unique.

It's harder compared to something like "DBZ".
Cause of how boring and bland DB is, all people basically shoot lasers and balls in different colors, so you can create a game with hundrets of chars without much thought put into them, since they are mostly all the same.

In "One Piece", the chars are more refined and their powers are basically like another character trait, instead of shouting a different name for another laser.
So creating a char would mean that you have to copy the exact moveset of another char, or find a way to combine here and there, so you can stretch your arms while fighting with 3 swords.

EDIT: What could also work would be, if the writer makes you the main char while giving you a completely new fruit/power that nobody else has.

Yeah I'd imagine it would be a completely new power, or a power in which you can copy others. I think a unique new power would be cool and maybe like DC Universe Online you could choose what the unique power could be. From generic stuff like elemental attacks to wild stuff like shape shifting or something weird. Either way I like hearing the potential in this happening from the fans.

Yeah, I've also had a copy power in mind.
Normally, I'm not much into speculating about non-existant games, but what would be dope would be a system like in "Bio Prototype" (one of the many "Vampire Survivors" clones).

Without explaining much about the game, it would work in a way that your char shoots out his hand, while the hand is in the air, it throws a fireball, and when it lands, it creates an ice field.
Outta the icefield grow arms and legs which stomb all over the place, and whenever a bodypart stomps something, a pool of magma appers.

Kinda excessive, but this is how said game works... you build a super impressive domino-effect with rather simple powers, and at the end, you have a fireworks off attacks.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that sounds badass I'll have to check that game out now too but true it sucks speculating about this knowing it won't happen. I just like to dream sometimes!

I 100% believe Character Creation could work in one piece. Honestly, I could see a 3 "version" game set. Think like pokemon's versions. The 3 would be Pirate, Navy, Rebel. Each would follow a Newby in their respective faction, each with a choice of fighting styles (obviously including devil fruit). Each has its own major story, but it would also have a over arching story you'd need to play all 3 for. I could even see a special character carry over between the games, giving special bonuses like cosmetics.

I think the problem with any real character creation is that you have multiple different proportions. Kuma's huge, the giants get super huge, some are wide, and then you have stuff like the bee race that are tiny and Chopper. So unless you're going to start by limiting the character creation right off the bat, the world design would have to take into account all sizes, which would get... odd. For example, the character being tiny and then navigating an area that had to be designed around giants in size.

it could get odd except i think it would still fit since we know this to be thing in the one piece world right? i mean theres places where giants dont really fit in one piece and vice versa. i think as long as characters arent phasing into ♥♥♥♥ it would be fine. hell there could even be a destruction mechanic in the scenario of an open world although at that point im just making outlandish asks

Creating your own One piece character and going off on pirate adventures within this world does sound cool. Especially encountering the vast array of quirky folk.

Either that or farming in the Cake Isles. :fomtlaugh: (As stupid as that sounds for a spin off, I'd take it.)
