Question - Will I keep the pre-order bonus if I refund after release?
I purchased the game from elsewhere at a slight discount, but I suspect the key won't be made available until the 13th.

If I was to purchase the game here before release, and then refund it once the key is made available, will I keep the preorder bonus?

Having a key before release, and getting pre-order items are 2 separate things. The key itself decides if it contains pre-order items. So no, refunding off steam and switching keys won't necessarily give you pre-order items.

Where ever you bought the game, look there, it should tell you if you get pre-order items or not. Generally speaking, CDKeys, Instant gaming, fanatical, all generally specifically say if you get the pre-order bonus or not, and if it say's you do, in my experience you get it.

Only GMG have I seen actually fail to do this. And they gave 5$ back when they couldn't honor it...which luckily I was one of the ones they actually gave a new key to, but loads just got the 5$ back (Monster Hunter Rise). You can see if if you go search for it.

you cannot refund games that are bought from 3rd party sites.

Only one way to know: why don't you try?

You misread. I am intending to refund the steam version when the 3rd party key becomes available.

That's the plan. If the 3rd party site doesn't release the key in the final 5-10 minutes before the steam copy releases, then I'll try it and see what happens.

Humble and other official key seller should have pre-order bonuses. Third party sites not so much.

Never had an issue with pre-ordering from cdkeys and gamivo

Is it worth all this hand wringing and trouble for a "slight discount"?

That's what I'm trying to decide. A 30% discount is always nice, but it would also be nice to know for certain if I'll have access to the pre-time skip attires. :gnomechild:

You will not keep the preorder bonus after you refund it after release

I have never had a problem with GMG regarding pre-order bonus stuff, but I have heard of it happening rarely.

But I agree with you, if whatever greymarket he is buying the key from doesn't say it will haver pre-order bonus guaranteed, than there is a good chance he simply won't get those bonuses regardless of how he tries to "game the system."

Thank you for the informative answer. In that case I'll just grab the game on Steam.

There's a difference between having no money and smart, selective spending.

You'll learn that when you're older kiddo.
