Tomb Raider: Underworld

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Can't even start the game :-(
I have the 3970X 32 core Threadripper with GTX 1080. But this game will not start. I tried reducing the number of cores for the app by adding:

"cmd.exe /c cd /d "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Tomb Raider Underworld" && start /affinity 7FFFFFFF tru.exe"

but that didn't work.

I even purchased the "CPU Cores" app through Steam, and even if I just select one core the game won't run.

I deleted the game, reinstalled it, no change. What else can I do?

I press the "play" button and it changes to "stop" and a few seconds later it switches back to "play". Spent countless of hours trying to get it work.

Same issue with Tomb Raider Anniversary. All other TR games work great.

Any suggestions?

the CPU Cores software is a total scam and you can literally just do everything it does on your own via Windows or with free alternatives

i'm assuming your CPU is too powerful for TRU which is ironically a bottleneck

Put Vsinc on. If you don't set a limit to your fps or just use Vsinc, the game will be buggy. Well if that don't work try the integrity of the game files. Other than that, you can search on the internet(reddit subforum for TR)

how can OP toggle vsync when they can't even start the game? if you don't know what you're writing, then please refrain from making such comments. but at least you were humble enough to suggest searching the internet.

and before you tell me, vsync with triple buffering being forced via Nvidia control panel or AMD Radeon software only works for games that support OpenGL.

Simply put, you're entirely wrong on that count.

ok then, i simply forgot it was triple buffering that only works for OpenGL games, and from my experience, forcing vsync through both clients didn't do anything for me for the games I've played though probably cause they had issues with vsync themselves.

it still stands that enabling vsync isn't going to be the likely solution for OP because they have a completely different problem altogether, and also the main menu is already capped to 30fps anyways.

If you are still seeing the replies to this thread.

I have the same cpu. Download Ryzen Master and click 'game mode' then restart your pc and play. Fixes quite a few games that can't deal with this cpu, Witcher 2, Hard Reset, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Crysis (not the remaster) and so on.

Just force the game to start in 60 fps in Nvidia Manager or Radeon Software (for AMD users). Lock 60 fps works fine for me.

in case anyone else trips over this thread:
you can launch the config program at any time by adding -setup to the command line

simple fix for 32 cores cpu, go to task manager --> details info --> right click steam.exe --> affinity --> uncheck any 1 core

Even if you get it to start youre gonna get stuck in the second cut scene and have to reboot your computer anyways, games busted.
