Playstation Dualshock 4 Controller can't be used
Can't really play the game, a recognized controller in other games simply does nothing in Animal Well. Anyone else having this issue? Is it the controller type, or is the game just broken?

You might need to enable Steam Input to use a DS4 controller. The DS5 controller works without Steam Input, but DS4 controllers have always been a pain on PC.

I have DS4 controller and it works natively. Not using any other app.

EDIT: Oh yeah I'm using wired, so as @Billy said below it is indeed the proper way for native DS4 support.

How are you connecting your DS4? Wired, bluetooth or proprietary dongle? I use bluetooth and the game does not recognize my DS4 exists without enabling Steam Input for the game...

Hi sorry about this. DS4 support is a bit complicated unfortunately.

If you are using USB, or the official PlayStation PC dongle, it should work out of the box.

If you are trying to use regular Bluetooth, you can enable steam input to help the game
recognize it as an xinput device. Using steam input, however, you will not be able to use DS4 specific features, like the lightbar and touchpad. This is a limitation of the PlayStation controller SDK.

Hope, that helps!

Thanks for the reply, I feared as much. Looks like I'll be plugging in my cable. Enjoying the game btw! :praisesun:

Actually now that I think about it, Steam itself and tools like DS4windows can read/access the touchpad and lightbar even when connected only via bluetooth. If it's not supported by the SDK, I wonder how they're doing it?

Hi! Is this the case also with the PS5 controller as well? Thanks!

Surprised that I couldn't find this online, but I found the solution myself.

In DS4WIndows, edit your profile, and go to the Other tab. For the Controller setting, change it from Xbox 360 to DualShock 4. Now your DS4 will work with this game over bluetooth. No need for Steam Input. This allows you to use the DS4 specific features such as the touchpad.

You can save this profile as a new profile, and set up an auto-profile for DS4Windows to automatically use this profile for Animal Well.
