HELP! How Too defeat the skeleton fish?
I knew I needed to play the flute, with the tips of the notes on top of the bubbles it blew.

I tried for hours but couldn't get it done. It's so distorted that I can't tell if he's left or top left or bottom left. I tried various permutations but still couldn't get it done, which was very frustrating.

The directions he spits the bubbles in form a song, you simply need to follow his lead and play along.

If it's hard to read the directions, try ignoring the fish itself and focus on what direction each bubble is travelling in. If it's travelling diagonally up and to the left, play an up-left note.

im not sure why people keep saying to play the notes because im doing that and it isnt doing anything.

The skulls in the skull room have probably filled the entire room by now with the amount of times this fish has eaten me

Stand on top of his head and he cant hurt you.

Also when you play the notes do not hold down the play button, hold down the direction and then tap the play button. I also had this problem and didnt get to use warp song the whole game even though I tried using it as soon as I found it. I was playing the flute wrong.

The flute playing a note when you equip it is the one thing I think needs to be changed to make it more clear how you're supposed to use it. Playing a note when you equip it (as in, have something else equipped, change to flute, and use the activate button to whip it out) makes players think that you need to hold the button and tap directions to play it when actually it's the reverse. You hold directions and tap the button to play it correctly.

If they just made the flute not play a note upon equip I think there would be a lot less confusion.

^^^ Exactly my experience. I only learned I was using the flute wrong by looking up the warp fish after I "beat" the game. I was annoyed that there was no warp in the main chamber to make travel easier, so I felt something was missing.

the whole game is about experimenting and discovering mechanics, and people can't experiment with this item and figure it out naturally? lol

this thing with flute is not about experimenting, it's about quality of life and intuitive approach

The problem isn't experimentation, the problem is the way the flute currently functions confuses the player on how it's SUPPOSED to function and there would be a much cleaner path to figuring that out if there was a super minor tweak. This isn't a people problem, this is a mechanic problem.

In fact, you can TELL the flute isn't intended to work that way because in every area of the game where you play music to solve the puzzle (cat cages, etc.) the note that plays when you pull the flute out doesn't count towards the puzzle's progress. The dev realized it was a problem but created a workaround for the note that plays rather than just not making the flute play that first sound.

Yeah but no. By that logic they should explain all controls and tell you how either items work

For "quality of life" reasons.

I think the cat rooms actually benefit the player on understanding how the flute works mechanically. It's the only room that has feedback to the player when playing notes.

I think the first note that is played when the flute is brought out can be confusing at first, but why should it matter? Flute codes are taken in sequence, and the sequence can be done at any point of any time.

You need to play the same song from the flute thing that usually open portal to the hub.
The fish stop you can enter its mouth
