Stuck with my yoyo, tips appreciated

Not too far in game. Got to room with big baller animal statues in back. Went right, did all the rabbit stuff. Got yoyo. Went down and left, past ostrich. Then down a long hole. Explored all down there but don't see a way out or progress

It is a Metroidvania, which means that if you are stuck somewhere, just go somewhere else. The game conveniently gives you a way to go back to the center of the map when you have "completed" an area.

I tried but could not find my way back to the main room to go a different direction. Either I'm missing a very hard to find button or switch in a dark room, or I need to somehow move the dogs with shields - and the yoyo means nothing to them.
