I have gone back to the arrows and triple checked them, I've tried rotating them in my mind, I'm starting to get pissed off lol

Remember you dont need to hold the "flute play" button. Its a toggle. Just hold in the correct direction and then press the play button once. That counts and works perfectly fine. After that you can continue with the rest.
I struggled at first, too. :)
