Hello, did anyone try hex-editing save game files?

I've tried to change value of the number of deaths to see what lies beyond wall of skulls , because I'm a puny player and can't beat the game without dying . I've found the location of the value in the save file, but when I've changed it and loaded the save game file the manticora ghost has started chasing me everywhere ! .

Dear Billy, did I trigger the anger of the manticora spirit god guarding some anti-tamper checksum?

Yup, lol. there's a lot of encryption and even cheater bait in the files like that. You can totally quit without savinh and restart to preserve deathless if you really want a chest.
