To buy or not?
Alright, I've read a lot of the criticism, but I'm wondering is this version *really* that far gone? Like, are the changes from the original release to the Steam edition inherently harmful to the experience? I know about the font issues, the cropping, the censorship, the translation, but do these necessarily detract from the story? I'm trying to stay unbiased yet skeptical in my purchase and I don't want to pirate the novel. Are there any significant scenes removed (not just h-scenes)? Are there any bad instances of 'Engrish?' I don't care too much about the removal of h-scenes, ugly font, or cropped cgs as long as the essence of the original is still there. I recognize the problems everyone has with this publisher, but they're selling it at a much cheaper price than some of the other vns on Steam. On that note I should probably also ask the length. vndb says between 10-30 hours, but what would a bit more exact time be?

P.S. what's this "12 year old french girl" joke about Moenovel on the other discussion threads?

These criticisms have no real impact on the story, just like all of the other VNs released by this publisher. People just like to complain when they don't get their H-Scenes in Steam releases. As for the "12 year old french girl" joke, that was started with an interview with the publisher when they said they were localizing VNs accessible to "12 year old french girls", I think it was. It was back with their first release, If My Heart Had Wings, which came out on DVD about a year or two before the Steam release, in English.

The 12 year old french girl joke is based on Moenovel at some point having commented something like, we want 12 year old french girls to be able to enjoy this VN about If My Heart Had Wings, which is a VN they totally butchered, from what I heard they even removed kissing scenes and managed to make a 18+ VN be rated 12+.

In regard to this VN I haven't played it myself so I am not sure about this, but it seems like many others are saying that the H-scenes are important, based on that I suppose it would detract from the story to have them removed. The low price seems to be the way Moenovel like to do things. They cut away any 18+ content and then release translations that aren't that good. With these things it is unlikely that they would sell many copies with a high price since most of the people who would be interested to buy it would check out the info first and then see the bad rep Moenovel has. Without the consumer base that just want cheap VNs regardless of the quality I think they would end up a lot fewer sales.

They also have a bad rep for the fact that they tried to pretend the Lovekami VNs were 17+ by first releasing them on steam for the english base. At a later time they confirmed a japanese edition that would be 18+ which clearly was intended from the start and they even had the balls to use the fact that it had been on steam and that the japanese people would get a powered up version (18+ version) that would be exlusive to Japan. Because of things like this and their constant censorship and bad translation, me and many others hope for Moenovel to end up bankrupt and for Pulltop the japanese company behind Moenovel to instead license their VNs to other companies that do a better job at localizing VNs, like for instance Mangagamer.

I would really like some insight, if any, for how important the cut content is. Like I said, I can do without it ultimately, but if it's that important I could definitely see the problem.

I see the company has a bad rep, but honestly I'm just concerned about *this* novel right now. I know their rep plays a role into it, but my sole concern right now is the usability of this build.

Thanks for the responses so far.

People who think the story is detracted from without the H-Content are those that just prefer it in their VNs. This one, as well as any other that has a console release are perfectly fine without the H-Content. All that isn't in this version is the H-Content, since this is based on the 17+ console version, which would be rated M, rather than AO like the version with H-Content.

Holy crap this is the first I've heard about love kami getting an 18+ version in Japan. I've seen people comment that moenovel has been getting better but this is actually tragic. It's like they just don't want to touch 18+ content despite their parent company basically putting out nothing but that. This makes me definitely not want to touch anything moenovel with my money.

Worst part to me is that they claim these games are worth 50 dollars complete, but if you remove the 18+ content it is just bargain bin 10 dollar trash.

Please respect your own games. It makes me furious to see these games being claimed to be excellent, but worth no money.

I'm not sure if porn makes something 5 times more valuable.

I guess on that note, do they have any plans to release an H-patch, or are we still in the dark about that?

Their parent company still does non-18+ versions of their games, too, especially to console. The West just doesn't get the console versions, but they releases the consle versions to PC. This game, however, isn't from their parent company. This is tthe version of Cross Channel that they were given to work with by the developer, FlyingSHine. MoeNovel can't make a patch for the 18+ content if they aren't given the content. In the case of IMHHW, they could have done anything, but the parent company didn't want to release the AO version for whatever reason, likely due to issues with pay processors to release that kind of content.
Bakauchuujin Mar 27, 2018 @ 3:14pm
Considering that they haven't said anything about 18+ patches so far even though there have been so many comments about the lack of them as well as their behaviour so far it is extreemly unlikely that they will ever release 18+ patches.

Something I wonder about is whether the cut content might be to devalue the western version so that the japanese version is worth more. Considering how Pulltop have done localizations so far it seems likely that they don't really care much about the western VN fanbase. As such we are only a way to make extra cash. By releasing an inferior version here the japanese market will not be effected since they won't be jelous due to us getting lower prices. Low prices seem to work well on steam and as such that is the method they choose. This means that they can get decent sales on steam and have it not interfere with the japanese market. Ofc this is speculations and I am not completly sure if this is the reason or if it is something like not wanting problems with steam. Either way the end result is that the western fanbase is not considered important enough to get the full release of their VNs.

It is not even worth to pirate this game. Translation is butchered with lots of errors. Moenovel is simply out of touch withe vn community. They should give us full product or leave VN scene altogether...

I always prefer to play vn's and in an un-butchered state, so I generally stick to fan translations, this one is just another example. I can imagine a ton of other stuff cut not only the h-scenes. Mind you stuff from a place like mangagamer that specilizes in 18+ stuff usually is not too cut, if it is at all.

If they cut something as tame as a kissing scene out of if my heart had wings, there is ALOT of stuff they can/will cut from this trust me.

Cross Channel is a good visual novel in its uncut state, I highly reccomend it, just find the fan translated version it should not be hard.

This is one thing I don't get. I played the entire game with all routes and got all achievements for IMHHW and there were definitely kiss scenes in it, but a lot of people claim they were cut, when they very clearly were not. The only things cut in that were the actual H-Scenes themselves, as well as scenes where they were possibly nude, and changing one phrase to call breasts eyes, but it is clear what they are referring to and just making a joke out of it.
